60 Years!

My grandparents celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary today.
I'm in awe of their love, light, laughter and  ability to work through sixty years of life's highs and lows.
They continue to inspire me to strive for excellence in every aspect of my life;
Seek new opportunities, build solid relationships, and shine bright.

The Morning News

I remember waking up to the delicious smell of coffee with sweet cream and sugar,
Still half asleep, I’d walk into the kitchen to find my grandma and grandpa reading the morning news paper;
I was always eager to receive ‘The Mini Page’ so that I could feel like a grown up.
I was hooked on the intoxicating smell of recycled paper and ink––games, activities, and fun articles that would inspire me.
Journalism and exploring world events was just one of many wonderful life moments my grandparents shared with me.
Now, as I sit on my iPhone and comb through the stories that populate my news feed, I miss those delightful exchanges.
I’ll be forever grateful for the wisdom and knowledge they instilled in me.

Sense Memory

After all the complaints I make about life on tour,
I figure the least I can do is share a happy memory.
As I was walking out of the hotel elevator after a very long day in the theatre last night, I was flooded with the aroma of hotel pool carpet and the buzzing of the ice machine in the alcove in the hallway.
I was instantly transported to my childhood; wonderful vacations with my family.  Traveling with my grandmas and grandpas was such an adventure, and continues to be with the pair I'm blessed to have left.
It never mattered where we were going, or what we were doing, the love and laughter that surrounded me was overwhelming.
My family gave me the gift of confidence, Faith and unconditional love.  I'm grateful to have that reminder today- life is short, so make it count.
Worry less about the "have nots" and remember the blessings.
