I’ve learned a lot from my dogs:
I sleep when I’m tired,
I eat when I’m hungry,
I whine when I'm sad,
I hide when I don't want to be bothered,
I seek friends when I need attention,
I relieve myself when my bladder is full,
I exercise when someone else forces me to, and
I beg whenever I really want something.

Lick Your Wounds
I took my dog to the groomer yesterday,
They nicked her left paw and neglected to inform me;
I discovered it this morning, thanks to the trail of blood on my beautiful 800 thread count sheets.
She licks her wound,
While I scrub the blood from the Egyptian cotton.

Puppies, Come Out of the Closet!
Both of my puppies are curled up on my lap;
Neither one suspects what’s about to come.
They hear me fetch their leashes from the doggy drawer––
Nope, it’s not a walk Lily...
It’s time to get your hair cut!
Ginger, the Yorkie, knows what’s up.
She just took off to hide in the closet––
Trust me Ginger, I spent time in the closet, too;
You’ll feel better when you come out! ...You’ll look better, too!

Lap-Dogs Will Be Catty
I’m watching my dogs fight over the food bowl;
Neither one is very interested in eating––it’s just a competition to see who can out intimidate the other––so basically it’s like a catfight on America’s Next Top Model.

Doggy Dreaming
Snuggled up in a warm bed;
Maybe I’ll get up for food, or maybe I’ll stay right here and stretch.
Long walks, lap time, and belly rubs.
Endless amounts of cookies and treats.
Someone who cleans up after my every move;
I wish I had my dogs life!

Let It Go
Not the song,
The bitch who almost ran over my foot and nearly killed my dog this morning.
And then blamed me for walking my dogs.
You can hit-and-run, but I. Will. Find. You.

Eager Puppies
Eager puppies hovering at the edge of the bed,
Ready to release their bladder and smell the new scents on their morning walk.
The cookie dance, which involves twisting and twirling in circles when we get back-
These dogs are so predictable...
Take them on a morning walk, give them a few cookies and some dog food and water, and they give us unconditional love!

Zen Puppies
I love to watch my puppies wake up;
Slow yawns, then-
Drop, roll over and wait for belly rubs.
Harnesses on, they eagerly wait by the front door.
Once we're back from their morning walk,
They twirl for cookies,
Followed by a hop, circle dance to the food bowl (they each have their own special way of eating.)
Finally, with a full belly, they run to their doggy beds in the living room:
The yorkie, Ginger, soaks up the sun, while the shih tzu, Lily, lays around watching the squirrels outside.
It's a wonderful zen moment.

Sleeping Puppies
Quietly, I sit an watch.
Curled up in a furry ball,
Their tummies rise and fall.
Peaceful and worry free.
Awake, they pretend not to like each other,
But fast asleep, they snuggle like two peas in a pod.
Time to wake them up and start the day,
But I'll enjoy this perfect moment, before they wake up and start to play!

Here Doggy...
Why do I have to bribe my dogs with cookies in order for them to "come" when they're called?
The house could be on fire, and they will only "come" if I had a treat to offer them!
If this is any indication of my parenting skills, I'm in trouble -
Or I just might have a really fat kid!?
(Is it okay to refer to my nonexistent kid as fat?)

Lap Time
I envy the life of my puppies,
Their toughest job is deciding which lap they're going to lie in.
After lap time they wake up, eat, go to the bathroom and then search for their next lap!
Oh to be a puppy.
