Last night, after a fabulous birthday party in Hancock Park, we stopped at a McDonald's for my niece;
Even after a massive spread including: popcorn, chips, dips, pizzas, salads, cookies, caramels, chocolates, cupcakes, candy, and a second round of pizza... my 6 year old niece was still hungry.
Apparently so was I!
I ordered the Number 2 (two cheeseburgers, large fries, and a coke) AND I added a four piece chicken McNuggets––because ya know, why not?
It's the exact meal I ate in high school. Everyday.
And I wondered why I had a weight issue.

Manhattan Quartet
A Manhattan at the bar to get the party started;
A Manhattan in the lounge to keep the party going;
A Manhattan with our entrée to elevate the party;
A Manhattan as a nightcap to wrap up a solid reunion with my closest friends.
The perfect Manhattan Quartet!

Feed Me!
I’m not sure that my late night Postmates order––pizza from MiDiCi––is helping me with my body issues.
The main issue: I want to be thin, I just love food too much.

Ode to SunChips
A chip by any other name would not carry that same bright, whole grain saltiness.
A delightful memory from middle school, the heart healthy (or so the bag claims) snack that gave me the courage to face fourth period.
Don’t get me wrong, Doritos will always have a special place in my soul;
But SunChips have no artificial flavors or preservatives, so my gut can be happy without the guilty feelings...

Note To Self:
Salty pizza and Ranch dip might seem like a good idea in the moment;
But please remember the three days of bloating, heartburn, and weight gain you experience in the aftermath.

Christmas Weight
The holiday weight is over...
Christmas is just around the corner and if I keep overeating at every holiday party––I’m going to be large enough to replace Santa Claus.
Tis the season to be merry; and uncomfortable in clothing that doesn’t have an elastic draw string.
So, unless I’m ready to start buying my clothes at Walmart––I need to trim the holiday cheer.

Dinner Party
Dusting,
Vacuuming,
Prepping food,
Creating the perfect playlist,
Seating arrangment––it’s important to consider who’s NOT talking to who.
Lighting candles,
Stocking the bar,
Friends arrive:
Small talk, greetings, meeting new friends;
Drinks are served––now the fun begins.
Laughter, gossip, food, and more booze;
Tis the season to be jolly.
...tonight marks dinner party number FIVE... four more to go!

Holiday Balance
Sometimes balance means letting go of harsh expectations;
The holiday season always weighs me down––I gain a solid ten pounds.
The scales are tipped with delicious cheeses and spirits galore;
Come January, I’ll be lucky if I can squeeze through my front door.

Movie and a Meal
Afternoon dates are fun;
The theater is empty and the restaurant, too.
You can stretch out your legs, and eat as much as you want; guilt free.

It's Time...
I want to eat another breakfast burrito;
But the waistline on my jeans is begging me not to.
It’s time to reel it in.

Ode To Mexican Food
Just add the cheesy, deliciousness directly to my love handles.

Morning Ritual
Steam whistling through the tiny holes in a stainless steal tea pot;
The smell of bacon wafts past my nose.
I finish the last sentence in my journal,
Share my daily social media post––and adorable picture of my niece dancing;
And I stare at my computer screen.
Time to pour my emotion onto a blank page,
I’m going to need more bacon.

Lazy and Overflowing with Love.
Flopped down on my couch,
I’m ready to binge watch something on Netflix and fall asleep with my puppies; one on each side.
I overdid it in yoga––most a subconscious reaction to the amount of food I’ve been eating.
My stomach growls,
I cannot possibly be hungry;
More likely it’s my body readjusting to the idea of normal consumption.
My mind is obsessing about pizza,
But the love hanging over the side of my sweatpants reminds me that arugula would be a better choice tonight.

Lap-Dogs Will Be Catty
I’m watching my dogs fight over the food bowl;
Neither one is very interested in eating––it’s just a competition to see who can out intimidate the other––so basically it’s like a catfight on America’s Next Top Model.

Truth on Tour: Day 19
When you have an omelette station in your green room before call time;
You wake up extra early to ensure your spot in the line.
Little things like warm, fresh food have the impact of three hours of sleep––so I’ll gladly lose an hour of shuteye to gain that eggsellent energy!
Plus, that leaves me even more time to make my trek to Starbucks, and when you’re staring down a fourteen hour day in the theater––that little green mermaid logo becomes your best friend.

Just Say No.
Dairy is my nemesis;
I eat too much of it—and then complain about eating it.

Serving Up a Sunday Slice of the American Dream
In a bus headed back to my house, we passed an IHOP full of happy people stuffing their faces with overly sweet corporate pancakes—the American Dream is alive; and full of diabetes.
I love gathering for Sunday brunch with friends.
Most of my weekends are spent working long hours for mediocre pay—the American Dream is alive; and full of stress.

The Calm Before Christmas
The end of the year approaches faster than department stores axe their Halloween displays and deliver us Christmas.
Longing to delight in the decadence of the festive season, I plan too many parties, dates with friends and family, and overbook my schedule;
Leaving me overwhelmed and stressed.
Every year I remind myself to enjoy the moment and appreciate each event, but I end up spending more time just trying to stay calm and get through it.
So today, I’m offering myself the chance to binge watch cheesy Christmas movies (thank you Hallmark Channel) while wrapping presents, chatting on the phone with loved ones, and yes––eating too many Christmas treats.
Tis The Season.
