Grey

The carpet in my hotel room;
The sky outside my hotel window;
The color of the eggs at the hotel continental breakfast.
Vibrant yellow:
The feeling I have inside remembering that this is my last weekend of travel for a month!

Life on Tour; Breakfast

The ultra sterile pure-white energy efficient LED lights in the hotel lobby accentuate the artificially-cartoon yellow eggs that sit like a spongy island in the “dinning room” tray;
If I forgot that I was living out of a suitcase, my faux-family––traveling from the most rural areas of the United States––remind me that I have made it!

Travel Sniffles

What do you get when you fly to a different city every weekend?
A lot of frequent flyer miles... Yes.
The opportunity to connect and immerse yourself in different cultures and traditions... Yes.
Ten pounds heavier from eating too much junk food and not enough gym time...Yes.
But the worst... the constant dripping nose that can only come from spending your life in hotel rooms where people share their nasty germs.

Travel Day!

The alarm rings at 5AM;
I don’t want to get out of my warm bed.
I faux excitent and remind myself how much I love my job;
Perhaps not every aspect of it––but this is part of the territory.
When I was twenty, traveling around the world for work seemed glamorous;
Now, it’s just a really long commute.
No one likes sitting in traffic but I sure love that I make a living doing what I love.

Truth on Tour® (Again) 3.6

Now it's time to play, "Which Line Will Be Longer: TSA or Starbucks?"
The art of airport traveling; you have to make it enjoyable—or you'll turn into an evil monster.

Truth on Tour: 2.0

Standing in front of the gate agent desk for United;
First in line—but aware of the shady businessmen who congregate in the vicinity waiting to pounce, "I just have a quick question" they say.
Patiently I wait as they beg for their First Class upgrade.
Shameless—it's what I loath about society; entitlement.

Back on the Mat

After traveling for five weeks straight––with very little time for meditation or exercise; I’m looking forward to getting back into yoga.
It’s time to get downward-dog and get upward with my spirits.
The calming, peaceful, grounded experience that transcends work, ambition, and stress;
When I’m back on the mat––my life makes sense.

Truth on Tour: Day 1

The alarm rang ten minutes after I woke up;
It's rare that I get a good nights sleep before a travel day.
Showered, dressed, and kissed the puppies goodbye.
We arrived to an empty airport—apparently the only time LAX is calm: 4AM.
I reacted like a First grader when they lose their favorite toy when I discovered that Starbucks was closed, and wouldn't open until after we take off.
The drama continued when I realized that I'm going to be on a three hour flight sitting next to a man who smells like Robert Downey Jr's breath (before rehab.)

Life on Tour

I'm hours away from embarking on a four week tour of the US; teaching, choreographing, and adjudicating dancers in glamorous cities like New York, Chicago, Atlantic City, and San Antonio.
As if the idea of spending a month living out of a bag, eating lukewarm convention food, and tolerating the needless body pat-downs from power hungry TSA agents doesn't make you think twice about my chosen line of profession—imagine leaving your cuddly puppies, comfortable pillow-topped bed, and of course my husband.
Like a high school Math team, I've spent the past week trying to mentally prepare for my TOURnament, with meditation, "to-do" lists, and creating projects that will keep me distracted while away from home.
One of those projects is a daily account of my life on the road; my objective with Truth on Tour, is to stay positive and creative through a series of quips, videos, pictures, and blog posts.
With any luck, I'll be so overwhelmed with creativity and brilliant energy, that I won't be so consumed with missing my family.
But for today, I'm going to enjoy a puppy in my lap and the other cuddling up next to me!

Morning Traveler

When you arrive at the airport early and you discover that Starbucks isn't open—but Pizza Famiglia is;
So, I can get a slice but I can't get a drip?
Heartburn before caffeine just doesn't seem right.

Another Week, Another Airport

The birds are chirping in unison;
They’re so happy to be up at 6AM.
I am not––but it’s all part of the lifestyle.
Off to spread my creative energy; Pittsburgh look out, I’m headed your way!

This Is My Seat

If you don't care about your weight;
Why should I?
It's not my fault you don't fit in your seat—but you certainly don't get to take up half of mine.

Home Is Where The Heart Is... and a comfortable bed.

Sleeping in my own bed,
Priceless.
It’s fun to be on tour;
It’s more enjoyable to be at home.

The End Of The Road...

Six weeks, five cities, seven book signings, twenty different clothing combinations, thirty five hundred entries, countless plays of “Dear Future Husband”, enough pizza to build a bridge to Rome and back, more alcohol than water, glitter, confetti, hotel beds, hotel bars, Netflix, late night adventures on a golf course, and almost no sleep…
The time has finally come––our 2015 season has officially ended.
The only thing left to do is party on a yacht!

Life on Tour

I’m an adventurist.
Never one to shy away from an unearthed path; I seek adrenaline in discovering new heights––personally and professionally.
Working on the road is has been an endless journey in self-awareness and evolution.
I’ve spent the past twenty years traveling for my job.
It’s sounds glamorous––hotels, exotic locations, new cultures, food, fancy parties, everything you imagine exists.
However the setbacks come a with a laundry list as well.
When I was in my early twenties I savored waking up in a new city ready to learn, I racked up the frequent flyer miles, too.
Experiencing the world on someone else’s dollar is not a bad way to earn a living.
I learned how to communicate in foreign languages, make the most of ten hours in a new city, get lost in a cathedral, pack a carry-on for a fifteen day trip, find the perfect cup of coffee, and socialize with strangers. My time on the road has been well spent.
Now in my late thirties, I’m running out of steam. Flying all night, public transportation, missing workouts, no time to meditate, eating poorly, drinking until all hours of the night, lumpy hotel beds, and long nights away from my husband and puppies is taking its toll.
I’m ready for a new adventure: Fatherhood.
I’m an artist and I will always seek out new opportunities that push me from my comfort zone.  It’s time to create something bigger than me.
I’m at the fork in the road, and ready to try a new path.

Stand in the line that serpentines around terminal 7 for coffee from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf?
Or
Go without coffee on this 6 a.m. flight?
I think you know my answer...
