Binging And Don't Care.

I’ve been on a three day Amazon Prime binge.
I should feel guilty about parking my butt on my oversized Pottery Barn sofa and gazing into the 60 inch screen currently playing The Good Wife (I’m on season 4 episode 18), but here are the facts:
Last week I finished my second manuscript––a creative nonfiction work that is approximately 80,000 words.  It’s only the first draft, but I believe that a few weeks away from my writing will help me reapprouch the stories with new inspiration.
Second, I have just been commissioned to set my second piece of choreography on the dancers at Slippery Rock.
Third, (yesterday between binging) I sent 15 emails, responded to 30 emails, orchestrated a video shoot which I am directing and producing in May, and finalized job opportunities for the fall."
Oh, and I managed to get down in my yoga class every day, too!
I’ve overachieved for the past five years straight, and I’m ready to join the land of the lazy without bullying myself into doing more.

Overachiever's Reminder:

There is a time for work and a time for play;
A space for creative growth and a cushion for rest;
An opportunity to seek new horizons and the gratitude of accepting where you are;
A moment to silence the chaos and be still, eventually welcoming the joyous music of the birds networking in the rustling trees.
Balance is available everywhere at anytime––when we remember to breathe.

Rest Assured

Four days of nonstop work;
An average of five hours of sleep each night;
A tickle in the back of my throat which suggests my immune system is weak.
I’m prescribing a day of couch cuddling and movie watching.
A system recharge is in order!

Spa Day

Tired, weak, and bruised.
You thought I was talking about my ego, didn’t you?
My body is in pain––after three weeks of choreography––I remember why I take a break in the fall.
I’m back in action working with dancers across the country, which I love, but my muscles need to be rubbed.
I’m off to the day spa, I know it sounds glamorous––and it is––but I also consider it an “on the job” necessity.
Hot tub, sauna, steam, and massage. Repeat every two weeks.

Rise and Shine

Not even the leaf blower, trash trucks, or construction on the house next door could stir me out of bed today.
The snooze button on my alarm is mad at me;
I continue to pound my hand down!
I’m up. I’m up;
I just need five more minutes.
I’m motivated to be creative today––I just have to convince my body to get out of bed.

A Day of Rest

Even on my days off I end up working.
Today, I’m hiding from the world, which includes:
Turning of my iPhone,
Ignoring my emails,
Avoiding social medial,
Hiding from responsibility,
Dodging my agents request for self-submissions,
Skipping yoga (okay maybe I’ll go to yoga––but only because I find the meditative exercise relaxing),
And binge watching Sons of Anarchy on Netflix.
Life is short: Find balance.

Well Rested

I just slept for ten solid hours;
My obvious reaction––I must have really needed the sleep.
But I can hear my grandpa saying, “You can never catch up on sleep.”
He may have been correct with his evaluation, but my body begs to differ.
I feel so well rested and fresh;
I’m ready to conquer the day––and it’s a good thing too, because I’m teaching in a very big workshop in New York City!

Holiday Break

It’s a rainy LA morning.
Christmas is just around the corner, and I am in full vacation mode.
There are hundreds of activities and errands I should be doing;
I’m giving myself the rest of 2015 off!
Although I just spent the last hour deleting emails from 2006 from my server––what can I say, I love an organizational activity.
Now, time for hot coco and puppy cuddles on the couch with a Christmas movie.

Life of an Artist

The deception and false hope;
There is no such thing as a day off in Los Angeles.
Try as I might to relax and underachieve––the DNA in my blood pumps and sends demands to my brain.
Work, work, work! you crazy fool;
If you want to get ahead, you can not rest.

Palm Springs; Day 4

We beat the heat in the pool;
Just in time, we packed––late check out and headed out of town before the traffic crawled.
Life is wonderful with my family: Jeff, Ginger, and Lily.
It’s simple and lovely.
Vacation ends, and we’re back to the grind.
Thankful for the desert.

Palm Springs; Day 3

I gain weight just looking at food––so Mexican dinner last night didn’t help me in the swimsuit department;
I’m on vacation, I can eat what I want.
I was able tune out the nagging demands of my job for a few hour yesterday––and thanks to a late night work session, I knocked out a few things on my “to do” list for today.
Hopefully I’ll be able to release a bit more today. Perhaps an extra cocktail poolside will help me chill in the 110 degree heat.
Vacation ends tomorrow, I need to enjoy today!

A Saturday Off! *Awesome

In my line of work, it's unusual to have the weekend off.
I'm going to milk today for all it's worth!
Starbucks social time,
A trip to the mall for some retail therapy,
Hot tub hang time,
An adventure with the puppies,
Dinner with my bug,
Topped off hosting a game night with friends!
#PerfectSaturday!

Day OFF!

I'm not going to feel guilty about taking the day off.
Primarily because I haven't had a break in over two weeks.
Even the most dedicated overachievers deserve a some down time-
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to post my social media, journal, check the daily trades, send out a few emails and return three phone calls before my day off begins!
