Zen Accountability

In an effort to stay present on tour, while also finding time to exercise my body and my mind, I'm going to start a new social media experiment; which will encourage me to meditate and simultaneously maintain my mental and physical strength.
#TenMinuteYogaOnTour
The idea is simple: Whether I’m in an airport waiting for a connecting flight or in the Green Room waiting to go on stage; there is no reason why I cannot find ten minutes in every day to be mindful.  The bonus is that I can stay connected socially and encourage others to take positive steps in their mental, physical, and spiritual health, too.
I haven’t worked out all of the details, and I’m not entirely certain how to incorporate an interactive social presence––but like every new adventure, the path will become clear once I start the journey.
Regardless of the success of this new yoga based social experiment; I know that I will stay accountable and aware of my overall health––and that is a Zensation!

Addicted To The Internet

Hi, my name is Matthew.
I'm on my computer more than I'm in my bed.
I don't feel good about that––but I'm afraid to change.
What happens if I don't post a status update every two hours,
Or share my latest Instagram pic,
Even worse, what if I miss an important email with a job offer that I only have ten minutes to respond to?
The fear is real, the addiction is true.
I think it's time to unplug for a few days!

Media Overload

Waking up to Facebook is more than a mild problem, it's an addiction.
Honestly, I'm not in my twenties and it is not 2007- so I think it's time to back away from the social media platform...
Plus, that will give me more time for Instagram, Twitter and Vine.

Social Media Faux Pas

In the social media world of: "Look At Me and All Of My Amazing Projects"
it's no surprise that you have to shame people into "Following" or "Liking" you back.
Sadly, some people get so caught up in their own self-promotion, that they forget to support their friends back.
The worst part is, it cost nothing!
...Except your ego.

Check-in Here

A NYC cafe full of people on their iSwippythings...

Posting, tagging, checking in-

But certainly not making contact with the friends sitting next to them.

I belong to a generation that has the best if both worlds.

I know how to Tweet a sassy thought, post an interesting photo and check-in to share my location to anyone interested (including the government).

Fortunately, I still remember how to UNPLUG!

Do the social media tech savvy children of our future even know what a handshake is? Or do the fist bump without looking up as the swipe to a new app?

Me Time

Sitting outside in the valley heat,

Drinking my Starbucks iced coffee-

The puppies comfortably passed out in my lap.

I should be writing or returning calls,

But instead, I'm enjoying some me time (with a splash of social media), naturally.

Plugged In!

I read my news on Facebook,

I get my inspiration from Instagram,

I laugh out loud reading my Twitter feed,

I watch TV on YouTube-

I think it's safe to say I'm in engulfed in 21st century lifestyle!

What Do You Do When:

You wake up and you have absolutely nothing to write about?
You sit staring at your computer monitor, hoping for inspiration -
When that doesn't happen, you spend another forty-five minutes combing through Facebook.
Getting lost in a vicious cycle of reality TV clips, YouTube cat videos, and Huffington Post articles!
Still, nothing.
But you realize you have to start your day. (You woke up an hour early, remember?!)
So you find your way back to your blog, and you start typing.
This is the result.

Lost On The Internet

Social media has become a necessary evil in my line of work,
But I have to accomplish something MORE than a #Tweet today!
Getting caught in a Facebook, Huffington Post, Twitter tornado has not been great for my writing.
Has anyone else been lost on the internet?
Seriously, I "click through" so many posts, that I end up on some random website with political cats!  I knew cats were intelligent, but who knew they could vote?

Social Media Saturday

I've:
Texted,
Tweeted,
Tumblred,
Facebooked,
Instagramed,
Vined,
Blogged,
and sent my last email.
I think it's safe to say that social media is here to stay-
Now I'm off to enjoy my day!

Social Media Mind-Warp!

Texting and Tweeting and Tagging oh my!
Spent 45 minutes surfing YouTube,
Before heading over to Facebook- where I was lost in an endless chain of shared social media satisfying.
Then off to Instagram for a photo bouquet...
I spend too much time using electronic devises, that are meant to help me connect to people!

Monday Media Madness!

It's always tough getting started.

A pile on the desk, emails galore and the inevitable phone calls...

I like to start on Facebook.  I figure, at least I'm online and headed in the right direction...

Just don't let two hours pass before you realize that all you've done is "like" peoples pet pictures!

Time to get some real work done.
And by that I mean, I need to figure out what I'm going to Tweet today...
I'm losing Twitter Followers by the dozens!

Social Media turns my Mondays into madness.

21st Century Lifestyle...

300 miles away from home or the office;
Last minute "urgent" work to be done...
The industry never stops!
Pop in to the nearest Starbucks:
Coffee and WiFi ASAP!
With my MacBook Pro, my iPhone and Skype I can conquer anything!
The best part, no one even needs to know I'm on vacation!
Social media, technology and a fast paced lifestyle can be overwhelming...
It can also allow you to live a life ANYWHERE!

Social Disease

Blog it,
Tweet it,
Instagram it,
Upload it on YouTube,
and then start all over again!
The world has developed a social disease-
We don't talk to people, we text them.  We don't have conversations about our families, we share Instagram photos...
I'm guilty of this addiction HARDCORE!
I think I need to take a break from the social media,
Right after I check my Twitter account to see if I have any new followers!

Another Day...

Another social networking site?!
Just when I thought I had the social networking all plugged in...
I discovered Pinterest?
If Jessica Alba is talking about it on The View, it must be worthy.
Do I really need to sign up for another marketing ploy guised as a social
networking site?
YEP!
If it's out there, I'll connect.
Far be it from me to miss out on an opportunity to network and build
my brand! LOL

Anti-Social Media

I met up with friends at a bar on the Sunset Strip
tonight for a fun social night out;
I spent the first ten minutes trying to "check-in,"
Yelp and Twitter my activities-
Followed by another five minutes shooting a fun
photo and tagging everyone on Facebook.
It was pointed out to me by one of my friends that with
all my social networking I had become,
"Anti-social media!"
The truth hurts!
So I put down my phone and engaged in conversation
with the friends who were actually in front of me...
It was a fun night.
Of course I went right back to my on-line friends
while walking home from the restaurant.

It's A Viral Birthday!

Wow! I never imagined turning thirty-four could be so much fun.
Thanks to the social media world we live in, it's hard not to feel special on your birthday...
Starting around 3 am, my iPhone alerts were off the charts;
By the time I rolled out of bed, around 8:30 am, I'd already received birthday well wishes from friends in several different countries!
You can say what you want about todays society spending less time interacting-
But today was proof to me that Facebook can also be used for good.
Who doesn't like waking up to hundreds of birthday well wishes?
I can honestly say, I felt the love of my online friends;
Some are lifelong friends, others are people I met out socially, and others are people I've never met but support my work-
That's the beauty of a social world...
The ability to reach out to people who make us laugh, think and inspire.
I was sincerely inspired by the energy I've experienced today!
I'm grateful today is already a Happy Birthday!

Social Media Meltdown

Having a social media meltdown...
I need to take a break from Facebook and Twitter.
Google+ is going to take some time to figure out...
I think it's gonna be worth it.

Plugged In!

Wow. I give those high school cheerleaders a lot more credit...
Being popular and connected takes a lot of work!
I just spent the past week making sure that I was signed up, cross-linked and ready to go on every social media platform out there.
You want to tag me on Facebook? No problem!
Care to know the latest and greatest place's I'm eating... Yelp is going to tell you.
Want to hear the most random funny thoughts- Twitter's where I'm at.
Interested in cool artistic photo's of my friends and pets doing hilarious things?
Instagram is the place.
Want to see more pictures? ...check out Flicker for my favorite moments past and present captured on film!
Need to contact me about your next great project and want to keep it professional?
Never fear! I'm Linkedin too!
You're in my neighborhood and want to join me for a drink- check out my Foursquare.
If you can't get enough of my daily rants, thoughts, essay's and writings here on Blogger, I've started sharing with the edgier crowed on Tumblr. too...
If all this is great but you're dying to see a parody of me in drag as a reality TV star... then YouTube is the place to be.
With all this connectivity I'm curious to see if I've gained any Klout?
I might not be as hot as Ashton Kutcher... But at least I can be as "plugged in" as him!

I'm Obsessed with TwitVid's!

There is no denying it! I'm officially obsessed with TwitVid's! Clearly it's true. I'm using a made up word to make it sound like it's a normal thing and everyone should start doing it!
Not in a crazy "drug pusher" kind of way- I just believe it's where society is headed.
Obviously I'm correct in thinking so.

People like Charlie Sheen, James Franco and Kirstie Alley are on board, so it must be a good choice. Once the crazy celebrities, gays and Scientologist are involved it's a sure thing!

Not to mention my friend Brooke just got back from SXSW and she said that the buzz on the scene was that Tweeting pictures: TwitPik's and Tweeting Videos: TwitVid's is going to revolutionize the entertainment industry and social media will rule the world!
(I'm not sure if that was her exact quote, but it was something like that...)
And trust me, Brooke knows her shit! So I want to get in on the ground up...

Even if it is driving my friends insane! What's a little insanity in the name of building an empire?

Take my friend- Former celebrity and future Reality TV star:
Michael Cornacchia- he understands the importance of social media:

Of course not everything may be worthy of a TwitVid...

Fortunately, Michael is a professional- so he's always got a great story up his sleeve to bring the crowds back around...

There's no telling how long this infatuation I have with Tweeting short videos that have no point is going to last. But I can promise, like any great addiction, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it! Filming random drunk moments, celebrity encounters and every other fabulous opportunities that arise in Los Angeles... and I vow to share only the best of the best at FunnyShaffer on Twitter.
