Merry Christmas

When I was a kid we’d all be on speaker phone talking to cousins, aunts, uncles, and the grandparents... Now we all huddle around the iPhone for FaceTime!  It’s a Christmas Miracle.

I'm Home!

It's fun to visit the snow––the Christmas spirt feels crisp and alive;
bundling up to go sledding or sipping hot coco by the fire...
But the swaying palm trees backlit by the gorgeous California rays reminds me that I'm an LA baby, all the way!

Colorado Christmas Day 5

We had a Christmas slumber party last night at my moms house;
My sister and I under one roof––along with my niece, three dogs, my husband, mom, and step-dad––it was a circus for sure.
It was also a wonderful reminder of how special the holidays are.
We played board games, watched movies, but my favorite was a round of karaoke; my niece loves to sing!
Today, we’re going sledding at San Isabel.
Tubing down snow hills, we’ll surely freeze our butts;
But what Colorado Christmas would be complete without snow and hot coco?
...and my niece screaming in my ear as we fly downhill!

Colorado Christmas Day 4

Merry Christmas!
I feel blessed to be with my family this year;
Faith, food, laughter, and cheer.
We opened packages this morning––as people do on Christmas––but the best gift I received this year was the present; truly learning how to live in the now.
Learning how to enjoy or accept each and every moment, regardless of the circumstance, has enabled me to appreciate my life on a deeper level.

Colorado Christmas Day 3

It’s the day before Christmas and all through the house...
Candy, cookies, and Hallmark movies are abundant.
The cooking is finished,
The presents are wrapped,
And I’m just waking up from a long winters nap.
My family will gather tomorrow with cheer;
And after the festivities we’ll all run with fear––of cleaning the dishes!

Colorado Christmas Day 2

Family gathered in the kitchen;
Laughter, love, and a lot of dough.
We made delicious Italian cookies called pizzales.
Nothing says, “Merry Christmas” better than a dozen of these sweet, light, crisp cookies.
They remind me of my childhood, my grandma, and my gut––because I always eat too many!

Colorado Christmas Day 1

Upon arrival last night, we were greeted by the entire family with an Italian dinner.
Their warmth was a nice contrast to the cold winter night.
The puppies woke up early this morning to go play in the snow;
They leap through the air like Santa’s reindeer.
Today we’re baking traditional Italian Christmas cookies;
Just looking at the ingredients I’m gaining weight!
It’s good to be with family during this time of year.

Christmas Weight

The holiday weight is over...
Christmas is just around the corner and if I keep overeating at every holiday party––I’m going to be large enough to replace Santa Claus.
Tis the season to be merry; and uncomfortable in clothing that doesn’t have an elastic draw string.
So, unless I’m ready to start buying my clothes at Walmart––I need to trim the holiday cheer.

Christmas Coma

The day after Christmas I fight back the urge to take down all of the decoration:
Standing as a defiant reminder of a day that comes and goes;
Leaving a trail of financial ruin, selfish children, and cranky parents.
I admit, I fall victim to the joyful cheer that begins in early November––commercialism and the lure of family traditions.
I have to take it down, now!
But I know, regardless of how hard I resist, next year I will shower my home with Christmas too early, and all will be right again.

A Trip To The Mall

The line for the parking lot was a parking lot;
People with bags of returns passing people exiting the mall with armfuls of merchandise and clothing now at "blowout" bargain prices!
Store associates ready to hide,
There's no escaping the angry woman without a receipt.
Why did I come to the mall? Tradition.
I walked in with a return,
And departed with two leather club chairs and twelve linen napkins...
Don't judge me!

Merry Christmas

I miss my family who are not near this time of year;
But I’m thankful for the man who brings me cheer.
The Christmas spirit: Sharing Faith, love, and goodwill to family and friends.
Midnight mass was a reminder to release fear and trust in God;
Beautiful music, a joyous celebration of the season.

The Calm Before Christmas

The end of the year approaches faster than department stores axe their Halloween displays and deliver us Christmas.
Longing to delight in the decadence of the festive season, I plan too many parties, dates with friends and family, and overbook my schedule;
Leaving me overwhelmed and stressed.
Every year I remind myself to enjoy the moment and appreciate each event, but I end up spending more time just trying to stay calm and get through it.
So today, I’m offering myself the chance to binge watch cheesy Christmas movies (thank you Hallmark Channel) while wrapping presents, chatting on the phone with loved ones, and yes––eating too many Christmas treats.
Tis The Season.

Christmas Is Coming

When I was young, my grandma would sing Christmas carols with me;
It was an exciting way to welcome in the holiday––full of joy, love, Faith, and family.
While I’m grateful for the blessings and life that I live now,
I get nostalgic for those simple memories.
Today I’m treating myself to a trip to the Grove (an outdoor mall) where I will thrust myself upon the holiday madness, search for gift bargains I can’t live without, and hopefully hear a carol or two around the piano at Nordstrom;
Christmas is coming, and I need a boost of jolly!

Family Vacation Day 3

Expectations lead to let-downs;
Gratitude, love and letting go inspires laughter.
Sometimes.
I love my family.

Family Vacation Day 1

Nineteen years and worth the wait;
The city I call home––where we spent our childhood, my sister returns!
Mom, sister, and niece are here.
Breakfast at our favorite childhood hole-in-the-wall,
My niece and I collect seashell at the beach.
Sand in our feet, I love watching her react to the foamy, brisk Pacific water.
Memories of laughter and love as we drive past the house from our youth.
Now cuddling on the couch with a cartoon before our journey to Disneyland.
I love when my family visits me!
Life is good.

Ring On The Bells

We're still a month and a half away from Christmas and the tintinnabulation blasting from the premature holiday commercials is pumping me up!

Jesus Christ Superstar

It was standing room only during mass today;
Who says God is not a Rockstar?
Obviously Christmas has become such a commercially celebrated holiday––for Christians and non-Christians alike;
Now if only we could remind practicing Christians that Easter is by far a more important day.
Lets compare:
Christmas, the birth of Jesus. Okay, well people are born EVERY day.
Easter, the resurrection of Jesus.  Yeah, you don’t see that every day do you?

Twas The Night Before Christmas...

And all through the house,
Christmas exploded everywhere... And. I. Love. It!
Not a corner is left without something red and green,
The stockings are hung on the fireplace with care, and I hope that tomorrow they'll be stuffed with more than just air.
I'm so grateful for my family and friends,
And to spend this evening in our home with loved ones, AND our puppies feels like...
