After 14 years,
The time has come!
They tied the knot,
And we had FUN!
A lot if laughter,
PLENTY of tears...
The dream was fulfilled after MANY years!

Inspiration
I've noticed that during my darkest hours, just as I begin to really lose hope and faith-
A flicker of light appears.
The most wonderful flicker of inspiration illuminates my soul and reminds me that I am blessed.
I wake up every day, living the life that I've dreamed about since I was a child.
I'm on an adventure and there is no ride that doesn't have a few free falls before another awesome climb!

November... Election Time! ...Thank God!
November is here!
Tis the season...
To get out and vote,
I can't wait until this election is over.
I'm sick of defending my choice for Equality-
Listening to people talk about the economy.
Interesting, the economy didn't seem to bother them when Bush was running the country.
Oh yes, because they were all caught up in going to war!
To protect our OIL... I mean Freedom.
Four more days.
Then on to more enjoyable Fall festivities.

Happy Halloween!
Kids get candy,
Adult drink booze,
Halloween costumes,
Goblins and ghouls.
The time for tricks comes once a year-
Treat yourself to a night of fear!

East Coast Under Water
Winds are strong,
Flooding the entire East Coast-
Six million people without power.
Images on the news are shocking,
It looks like a war zone along the New Jersey shore.
Thankfully, very few causalities.
Sandy proves to be a devastating storm.
Another reminder of Mother Natures power.
I'm sending love, prayers & warm wishes to all my friends and family in the East Coast.

Missing Gramps!
I can't believe another year has passed.
Has it really been three years?
I miss your laugh, your strength and wisdom.
I miss your catchphrases-
Most of all I miss your hugs.
I miss you grandpa-
But your spirit lives on!

1st Down and Goal
We're so close-
The end zone is steps away.
The work is complete,
The strategy clear.
Now we just have to run full force the last five yards!
Victory is near.

My Problems Are Small...
Life can be overwhelming.
Little situations can feel like huge disasters-
But the truth is, these problems are nothing when you take a deep breath, step back and realize just how small we are...

Trust
Gloom and doom is no way to wake.
Today's possibilities are endless!
Releasing the negative energy will allow room for positive action.
Stay focused on the things you can accomplish,
Set aside the problems that seem overwhelming,
And trust that everything will fall into place like it has EVERY time before.
It's cheesy, but true.
Faith always shines through.

Brewery Art Walk LA!
Who says there's no culture in LA?!
This weekend Jeff and I took a trip to downtown Los Angeles to explore the hip, cool vibe of the Brewery Art Walk.
As a Southern California resident for more than half my life... I never knew this place existed. Thanks to a dear friend and artist, Amy Mullin, we were invited to explore a vibrant and passionate scene!
We worked our way through hundreds of lofts and studios, each with a unique approach and design ascetic that matches the artists' who live and create there.
For anyone that appreciates the dedication and creativity of an artist, this should be a mandatory stop on your visit to LA!
Here's a little taste of the monkey business that Amy and Kam have created with photography by Kevin Scanlon. Click here for more details!

One other artist that really caught my eye was Ryan McIntosh. I'm a huge fan of pop culture and Ryan proved to have a fun new spin on an old point of view, capturing the current trend of Reality Celebrities...
Among others, he took Tweet's and trash from Kim Kardashian and somehow made it art.
It was an awesome and inspiring day of art in LA!

Rainy Fall Day
Skies are grey,
Misty droplets floating down.
The air has a chill.
The smell of a fire burning.
It's the perfect day to sip hot chocolate
and read a book!
Or, a trip to the Pumpkin Patch sounds fun too...

Unbelievable!
Sitting in a holding room for 3 hours-
This is really a callback?!
Director, "It's not about talent..."
Yes. We've heard that before....
If you're looking for a "very specific type" don't you think you should line us up first?!
No?
You want us all to stay for five hours even though you know we're wrong for the job?
Unbelievable.
I call that a power hungry asshole!

Daily Reminder Number: I Can't Even Remember...
In order to achieve ANY goal I have to implement these three things;
Hard work,
Faith,
Patience.
It doesn't hurt to enjoy the process and live in the moment either~
Stay focused on following my passion and actively enjoying the adventure.
The end goal will be achieved when the perfect opportunity comes along,
So be ready if for it but don't sit around waiting,
Get out there and live!

Saturday Yoga on a Rooftop!
One of the many beautiful things about Los Angeles is the weather...
Take a gorgeous day and combine that with the obvious need to stay healthy and hot in LA and you get Rooftop Yoga!
If you have to workout (and if you live in LA then it is MANDATORY) at least there are distractions~
Like a great view of hot bodies, hills and the ocean!

A Healthy Point of View
I was reminded again this week that even in our most overwhelming situations, positive energy creates fresh opportunities.
I've been fortunate (thanks to Groupon) this month to have the privilege to take yoga every day-
Starting every morning with a mind, body and spiritual practice has helped me release the fear and doubt that is lurking behind every corner in life.
It's so easy to get caught up in the negativity that surrounds us.
It takes great effort to choose to be happy and productive.
Especially in Los Angeles!
What I remembered in Yoga is that we manifest energy. We can either focus on sending positive energy into the world or we can contribute to the negative.
I've always been sure of God, and I trust that I have a purpose-
But like all humans, I forget to trust.
In myself. In the Universe. In Gods plan.
Thankfully I've rediscovered a healthy point of view.
I'll enjoy it as long as I remember to.

Every Day Is A Blessing!
I woke up today and my first thought was:
Yes! I'm alive!
(Then)
Oh shit- I'm alive...
Funny.
Every day is a gift.
Even the stressful, overwhelming ones!

I love the theatre.
Sets, lights, props and actors on an adventure.
Tonight I was invited to see the world premiere of a new play, "Build" at The Geffen Playhouse-
I left feeling inspired and ready to PLAY!

I Hate The iPad
I know I'm in a small minority-
But I really hate the iPad!
It's like a giant iPhone that can't make phone calls.
The worst is when you're trying to type something and your hand accidentally swipes the wrong button and all of your hard work is gone!
This is the third attempt at my blog entry today,
And thanks to the iPad I'm OVER it!
I'm not going to let it ruin my day though...
I just know not to use the iPad EVER again!
(Unless of course I'm traveling and want to watch a movie!)

The dream ignites the passion to pursue it.
But a dream without a plan is just a dream.

Cater or Sell a Kidney?
The options are running thin-
This is not an easy path.
Producing quality content that people enjoy watching takes more than passion.
It takes a lot of money!!!
The constant battle to create and still make ends meet.
No matter how long you've been in the business,
days like this SUCK!
Still-
I'd rather be broke and hustling,
Than working sixty hours a week at a miserable, soul sucking job!
Either way I'm going to die one day...
At least I'm having fun on my adventure.
(MOST of the time.)
And look at the bright side, if you can't afford to eat-
Think of how skinny and awesome I'll look on camera!
Ugh, the life of an artist.
SO unglamorous.
I'm ready for my sixteen year investment to pay out!
Otherwise-
I'm selling this kidney.
I don't think I'm using it anyway.

It's easy to be grateful and happy when everything in your life is balanced and calm.
But it's more important to be calm and balanced when everything in your life is not.
But it's more important to be calm and balanced when everything in your life is not.

Public Laughter Is Contagious
My favorite part of a weekend getaway to Palm Springs isn't the nightlife, although the gay disco tech we explored last night was mostly entertaining, in a flashback to "This Is Your Life" circa 1983 sort of way.
My real bliss comes from laying by the pool all day long with a magical book-
This weekend my book of choice is Chelsea Handler's "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang."
I CANNOT get enough.
I've always enjoyed Chelsea's irreverent and borderline hateful humor at the expensive of others- but this book is cocktails above her late night talk show chatter.
The book is intelligent, sharp and loaded with dynamite! I am very seriously, laughing out loud.
The best part, I'm doing so surrounded by innocent pool goers, who are doing their best to hide the fact that they're all laughing at me laughing out loud at a book.
I feel like the fat girl at prom- the one who's dancing with the hot boy and all the other kids are laughing out of insane jealousy!
The book is that delicious!
In fact, the mother of two unruly beasts of children came over just to tell me how entertaining my reactions are!
Now that's a golden pool moment!

Feel The Energy Feel The Burn!
If you have to work out-
(And unfortunately I do if I want to stay thin and healthy.)
Yoga is a wonderful option!
A group of like minded people gathered in a focused conscious effort to practice meditation and active stretching.
The energy is overwhelming...
So is the burn!
My mind, body and soul are happy!

Thanks For Moon River!
One of my first big musical theatre jobs was performing with Andy Williams.
Andy was a class act. Cool, confident and one of the most talented performers I've ever met.
Andy passed away today-
He was 84.

Grey Skies Are Going To Clear Up...
It's not very often that the skies are grey in LA-
On days like today, where the marine layer hovers
and the sky is grey-
It's very easy to succumb to a state of depression...
After all we're used to sunshine and happiness in LA.
Even if it is fake!
But never fear, the truly remarkable part of living in this
town is that nothing lasts forever.
Including this groggy Fall day!
So cuddle up with a book and pretend you're at a cabin!
And tomorrow when the sun comes back, you can rejoice
by hiking Runyon Canyon before your Zen Yoga, Triple Soy
Latte and power lunch!

High School All Over Again?!?
Woke up this morning, and there it was...
Stuck between two eyes, centered on nose!
A zit as big as Mt. Everest.
I'm thirty-four years old and I'm still breaking out?!
God I hate puberty.
On the plus side...
Maybe someone will think I'm fifteen!?
Or just a dude with a big pimple.

Don't Worry Be Happy!
I remember the song well...
I used to hear the phrase a lot growing up! I was a natural worrier.
I've finally accepted the simple fact that being Happy takes effort.
"Happiness" is a concentrated choice to release the;
fear, self-doubt, insecurity, preconceived ideas, hate and negative energy.
Life is truly more enjoyable when I make the choice to
release negative thinking (including what others think or expect of me.)
I don't think it's delusional-
I think it's necessary to thrive in a positive environment!

Manifest Good
Short tempers.
Soft egos.
Sensitive emotions.
The past week has been especially rough for most of the people I know-
Myself included.
It's almost as if there's something in the air that's keeping everyone on edge.
And today will be especially hard for most Americans as we remember
fallen heros, lost loved ones, and a shift in how we live as Americans.
I think most of us are struggling to keep faith in something or someone...
Perhaps if we go out of our way to help someone in an unexpected way-
We can manifest a more positive outlook on tomorrow.

Articulate. Communicate. ...ah Fuck It!
No matter how hard I attempt to articulate my;
needs, expectations, concerns, feelings, emotions, questions, etc. etc. etc...
Not every conversation ends with a smile.
It's inevitable in life that there will be moments where even the
most innocent misunderstanding turns into an all out WAR!
I hate getting involved in a heated debate, argument or yelling match with anyone-
Especially somebody I love.
Nevertheless, it's impossible to avoid altercations all together.
Not every battle can be fought and won in the moment.
Like my grandma always says, "Time heals all wounds."
Usually that is the case...
I'm having a tough time moving past my disappointment today!
I suppose not every day can be full of joy.
In those moments, I'm really FORCING myself to learn how
to walk away and say Fuck It!
Tomorrow I'll attempt to communicate without the needless defense.

Goodbye Summer. Hello Fall.
It's official.
Fall is here and Summer is gone.
So throw on a few layers and grab your Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latté-
It's time to things done.
The week after Labor Day is always a rude awaking for me. It's a short week to begin, and in those four days there is so much to get accomplished.
The challenge for me is to refocus on the goals that I set at the beginning of the year...
The way I see it, a September reboot is a must.
Kids return to school. We get a new Fall TV line up. Monday Night Football returns.
So naturally, I want a fresh outlook on my 2012 goals!
Mainly, I want to accomplish them.
So with four full months ahead, it's time to kick it into high gear.
I had some fun in the sun this summer-
But now it's time to get back to WORK!!!

An Inspirational Video for Dancers!
Tracie Stanfield has been one of my closest friends and colleagues for over a decade.
Tracie was one of the first people I met when I moved to New York City-
We had an instant connection.
While building our friendship, I worked with Tracie in many capacities;
I danced in her company, taught class for her at Broadway Dance Center, worked as a rehearsal director for her company Synthesis Dance Project and every summer I teach in her summer intensive in NYC.
Beyond that, Tracie is my loyal and loving friend.

The Difference in a Decade...
When you're twenty-something...
You start getting ready around 11:45 PM.
You drink too much, hop from club to house party to after-party
and roll into a Diner at 5 AM.
When you're thirty-something...
You get home by 11:45 PM.
You drink a bottle of water, hop from the couch to the bed and
roll into a Starbucks at 7 AM.
Age Changes Things!

One Sided...
When I call you and you don't pick up the phone-
It's annoying.
When I send you an email and you don't respond-
That's hurtful.
When you ask me for help and I help, but don't return the favor-
That's disrespectful.
When I communicate to you that our relationship feels
one sided and all you do is talk about what you need-
That's the end.
I have no place for one sided relationships in my life.

The Cure For A Long Day...
When you're up too early,
And have a full day of;
Work, meetings, projects and a celebratory dinner party...
Drink more coffee!
And remember to smile a lot!

Note To Self...
When drinking all night long on an empty stomach-
Don't be surprised when you wake up the next afternoon and feel like dying!

Proud Of My Dad!
I love my dad.
I'm guilty of not calling him enough...
But when we catch up on the phone, I'm always happy afterwards.
We just talked this morning because he had some cool news to
share with me-
My dad runs a plumbing, heating and engineering company in
Southern Colorado.
He just found out today that he was appointed to the
State of Colorado Examining Board of Plumbers by the Governor of Colorado!
An especially cool accomplishment considering my dad's a Republican
(gross I know....) and the Governor of Colorado is a Democrat!
That means my dad is exceptional at what he does.
Of course I realized that when I was a kid...
My dad gave up so many of his dreams to make sure that my
sister and I could follow ours...
So I'm pleased that my dad is rewarded for his years of hard work!
Congratulations dad!

FoodFest!
It's remarkable how fast you can gain five pounds!
In just one tiny little weekend...
It doesn't happen over night, but it sure feels that way.
You start off small;
Just a brunch with friends, maybe a "lite" lunch...
By dinner- you're ready for a full feast.
You wake up the next day and you still look and feel great-
So naturally you repeat the same behavior.
The only trouble is when you wake up the third day...
The scale has FOUND the extra treats.
You turn around, and YEP!
...There they are, magically attached to your "love handles"
and ass!
Time to get back on track!
God portion control is so annoying!!!
BUT IT WORKS.

I've Got The Spirit!
I woke up today feeling slightly deflated-
The past two weeks I've been allowing the negative energy
to slowly trickle back into my day to day;
I know that life is full of ups and downs,
More important, I remember that I have the choice;
I can give into the fear and doubt,
Or I can choose to release the negative energy and
make room for the light.
Pure positive energy and action.
I went to church this morning, and I was uplifted by
an energetic priest visiting from India.
He reminded me that life is full of opportunity, love
and if I allow it- the spirit of God.
The priests words filled my mind, heart and soul.
I am blessed with; my health, partner, family, friends, puppies,
a beautiful home, and the ability to wake up every shingle day and
pursue what I love!
I live my passion.
My adventure has purpose-
I choose to release the dark and let my spirit shine.

Going To The Getty
The perfect Saturday afternoon-
Wine on the terrace,
Walk through the Herb Ritts collection of photos,
Beer on the veranda,
Walk through the beautifully manicured garden.
European tourists everywhere!
Delicious people watching...
The perfect museum getaway.

An Observation...
I get extremely cranky when I have to sit in my house
and wait for a repair guy to show up!
and wait for a repair guy to show up!
In fact, I rage.
Especially if they've quoted a two hour "window"
of which they're two hours late!
of which they're two hours late!
That's all.

This Too Shall Pass... And other positive sayings...
I've made it through the better part of my life repeating mantras-
I have a quote, saying or state of mind for every situation.
Nevertheless, there are always those days when nothing seems to work...
It's in those moments when I really have to close my eyes,
Take a deep breath in,
And release all the bullshit!
Life is too short to be caught up in things that won't matter in two weeks.
Every challenge, setback, fear or problem has always been resolved.
That resolution comes no matter how much I worry or dread it.
In fact, the sooner I release the shitty, negative, nasty feelings and focus on
positive action-
The faster my "issue" becomes a non-issue!
LIFE IS TOO SHORT!

Waiting For A Page To Load...
It's funny-
The more advanced technology gets,
The longer we have to wait for it!
Why does it take 4 minutes to load a webpage?
It didn't take that long back in 1996 when I had AOL dial-up!
Flash, Java, Beta, Algorithms...
I don't know what the deal is?!
I just know I have the most expensive High Speed Cable modem:
I want to turn on my computer, click on my Bookmark Bar
and log into my bank account!
Facebook has been especially poor loading.
Too many people? or Too little attention to maintenance now that the site
has gone public?
Who cares!
Just don't even think for one minute that I'm going to let some
IT guy talk me into adding "Flash" to my website!
I want a website that people can actually use!
Ugh!
Finally, the page I've been waiting for finished loading-
I better click on it before it times out!

Work Hard... Rock Hard! 2012 SSMF
The 2012 Sunset Strip Music Festival is this weekend!
I'm lucky enough to be a part of the team that produces
three killer days of rock and roll on The Sunset Strip.
Of course, producing a festival of this magnitued takes a lot
of work~
But the perks make it all worth while!
Last night at the end of the day, I got to spend an hour dancing and
raging at The House of Blues VIP Kick-off celebrating the music and legacy
from The Doors took the stage!
Another fun highlight of the evening for me was hanging out with
Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff (former Baywatch Star and Ex-wife of
"The Hoff." She was off the charts hilarious.
It's all in a days work!

A Meeting of the Minds!
Last night I hosted an evening of creativity, laughter and networking for
my manager and her clients.
It's cliché to say, but the only true ingredient to success in any industry is
the people you're connected to!
I'm honored to be among a small, elite group of talented artist all guided
by our wonderful; manager, colleague and friend, Michelle Zeitlin.
It was encouraging to be in a room full of artist that write, act, sing, dance and produce-
all of them ready to collaborate on new projects and continue building bonds.

Neat Freak...
I'm a neat freak.
But I'm not a clean freak.
The difference?
Everything I own is organized, stored or displayed beautifully-
But covered in dust!
I realized this fact this morning while I was cleaning for a party.
I'm not as OCD about being clean as I am about almost everything else!
PLEASE don't miss understand, I do not live in filth!
I vacuum, dust and throw away my garbage on a regular basis.
However, I'm not as detail oriented when it comes to spotless windows,
floors or tchotchke's!
I guess it's okay to be a little relaxed from time to time.
Just make sure you don't look to closely at my mirrors or windows
the next time you're invited to my home!

Late to Bed, Early To Rise... It's a Producers Life
Waking up at 6 AM is not necessarily my favorite thing in the world to do-
However, if I plan to accomplish any of the goals I've set for myself
this week, I have no choice but to wake up when the sun begins to rise.
Don't get me wrong, waking up early has its advantages...
I get first pick of the pastries at Starbucks.
More importantly, I'm able to get twice as much accomplished.
I guess it's all part of the territory when you tackle shooting a parody for
our production company while helping to produce an event for the Sunset Strip!
No one said being a producer was going to be easy.
And it's certainly not my idea of fun;
But I'm sure I'll be proud of the work,
once it's over and I'm watching the footage!

Food Wars!
My puppies will only eat their own food if they know the other one wants it!
Feeding time becomes a battle of the divas...
Ginger, my Yorkshire Terrier is half the size of Lily, my Shih Tzu-
Yet Ginger is the first to pounce.
Ginger will wait until Lily is inches away from her food dish, and
then Ginger will swoop in and start eating Lily's food!
Naturally, this starts a furball-tornado that last until they've both
run back and forth between their food bowls whirling food around our house!
I guess some dogs have to work up an appetite in order to eat their kibble!
But if I step on another piece of faux steak bits, I'm going to

Production Day!
I love a production day!
Sure there's the stress of making sure lights and sound are perfect,
the sets are dressed, the costumes are clean, the craft service station is ready,
the shot list is in order, the parking permits are ready....
Then you have to wrangle the cables, wrangle the actors, and try NOT to wrangle anyone's neck!
But then-
There's the joy of creating a fun new project with our talented friends.
The laughter, the conversations between takes, the magic of when a scene comes
together-
It's an overwhelming and long day;
I wouldn't dream of doing anything else with my life!

The Back to School Blues...
Remember back when you were a kid on summer vacation?
The joy of unlimited adventures in the sun, pool, arcade, movie theatre, amusement parks...
The list is endless!
Then August 1st would come...
"Dooms Day"- the countdown for back to school!
As a kid, August felt like the final stand.
You had to try and squeeze in more fun before you
got stuck in a class room learning again.
Funny, not much changes as an adult.
August still feels like that month that got away-
So many plans for BBQ's, camping trips, days at the beach...
But so little time.
August is like the final hours on a Sunday:
You know you have the time off, but it feels like torture because you realize that it's only
a matter of time before you're back to the grind!
Ugh!
I guess we just have to make the best of the final days of summer sun...
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a water park to hit!

Pep Talk...
Come on Matthew, you can make it!
Release your fear and just go fake it-
Don't give in to worry and doubt,
Trust your instinct and knock it out!
[Repeat three times and then release your troubles.]

Positive thoughts and action lead to success!

Release and Move Forward!
Woke up with a lot on my mind-
I have two options:
Give into the negative thoughts and see how that plays out...
or
Release the emotions, focus on where they came from and take positive action to satisfy the fear.
Life is only as difficult as we allow it to be.
I choose not to start a fresh new week during the beginning of August off on the wrong foot!
Now if you'll excuse me...
I'm off to meditate and reemerge a happier me!

Photo Bombing...
Remember photo bombing before the digital era?!
You'd set up that perfect shot;
Careful to make sure every hair was in place,
Nothing in your teeth,
And everyone was standing in a pose that best suited their body type-
The photo is snapped...
There days later, upon picking up the developed pictures from the drugstore-
And there it is: That perfect picture with some random assholes head in the background!
...their idea of a fun memory!
Now, in tbd digital age we can laugh about these things the instant we see them and reshoot!
Still, sometimes a photo bombing asshole is pretty hilarious!
Happy Birthday and surprise!

Livin' Like a Rockstar!
I imagine everyone dreams of being a Rockstar at some point in their lives...
Then reality sets in.
Life on the road,
Sex, drugs, and no sleep!
Sure you get the screaming fans and the unlimited line of people dying to sleep with you...
But you probably only shower twice a week!
Gross.
That's why I'm happy with the lifestyle I live...
My job description changes as fast as Joan Rivers face!
Last night I was excited to be at an event to jump start the 2012 Sunset Strip Music Festival at the
GuitarTown Launch!
Rock and Roll!
...and a couple Jack & Cokes!

Is there anything better than the unconditional love from a puppy?
The answer is yes!
It's the unconditional love and cuddling from TWO puppies!

Pre-production work to start,
Social Media outreach,
and I've already meditated, exercised and did my creative writing.

Olympic Gold!
Today I'm going to set an Olympic World Record of my own...
"Most hours spent on a couch watching men's volleyball, men's gymnastics and men's swimming on Picture-in-Picture!"
Ordinarily I am NOT a sports fan.
But there's something about an athlete competing for gold that gets me excited.
Okay, I'm not going to lie...
Their tight, spandex uniforms don't hurt.
They had me at Red, White and Bulge...
Go USA!

The Glamorous Life...
I grew up dreaming that I would always be able to follow my passion and do what I love.
As and adult I rarely take for granted that I get to wake up every day and live the life I dreamed.
Despite the fact that my body is in major pain today,
I'm thrilled that I spent my day yesterday auditioning for a new show.
As much as I love working collaborating with artists as a director and producer-
Yesterday reminded me of how much I still love the opportunity to perform.
I love to dance, sing and act.
It's what I grew up doing and it will always be in my blood.
Even when I'm eighty years old!
My day continued to shine when a dear friend invited me to a home in the
Hollywood Hills that she was staying at...
It was magnificent!
Everything you'd dream of owning if you were a big Hollywood movie star.
I'm not quite there yet...
But looking back on all of the wonderful adventures I've had in my life,
I remembered how lucky I am.
I get to do what I love everyday!
And that is The Glamorous Life!

Another Day...
Another social networking site?!
Just when I thought I had the social networking all plugged in...
I discovered Pinterest?
If Jessica Alba is talking about it on The View, it must be worthy.
Do I really need to sign up for another marketing ploy guised as a social
networking site?
YEP!
If it's out there, I'll connect.
Far be it from me to miss out on an opportunity to network and build
my brand! LOL

Dear Anne Hathaway,
Thank you.
You've been a princess, a wife married to a gay man,
a fashion victim turned gay mans best friend and a Queen!

You make us laugh and cry.
You can dance, you can sing, girl you've even got
that swing in your step as Catwoman

You're gorgeous,
Seemingly down-to-earth on and off camera,
Smart. Sexy. Playful. Talented. Charming.
I'm looking forward to the day that I get to work with you!
Let's have lunch.
Peace,
Matthew

You Got To Do What You Got To Do...
Sometimes in life you have to make tough decisions and say things to
people you don't necessarily want to say aloud, but they need to hear.
I've been putting off sending an email to a friend and colleague.
This morning, I forced myself to compose the dreaded email and click "send."
There's a huge part of me that feels relieved that I shared my point of view
(even though it was unsolicited.)
Of course, there's a large part of me that wonders if they're willing
to hear what I said without feeling they need to defend their actions.
The truth is-
I care about this person and believe they're talented and creative.
I just have to trust my instinct.
If the tables were turned, and a friend offered advice to me that would
help me succeed on my path-
It would bruise my ego, and then I'd remember that my ego is not
important...
But becoming a stronger, more creative person is.
I'd listen to what they had to say, and attempt to implement their ideas to see if the work!
Let's hope my friend will do the same!

The Satisfaction...
In school I was forced to read books that teachers deemed important-
I enjoyed a few and loathed many.
Ultimately, I learned from all of them.
As an adult one of my favorite hobbies is reading.
I love essays, memoirs and historical based fiction.
I strive to read two books a month...
Sometimes I find the time,
Usually I'm lucky if I have the time to finish a book every two months.
The exact opposite of my goal.
In the summer I spend a lot more time traveling for work and pleasure, so I have more time to read.
It's for that reason that I seek out a book that is juicy, well reviewed and epic.
This summer I decided to read Stieg Larsson's third and final installment-
The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest.
Despite the fact that it is a New York Times Bestseller, and that I read and loved the first two books, I was worried that the final book wouldn't have the closure I was looking for.
Considering that Stieg has since passed away, I feared I wouldn't like the end and I'd be angry.
Fortunately, I just finished the last chapter and the satisfaction is euphoric!
Too bad Stieg died so early in his life and career as a writer. He told a very well crafted story!

Let's Do This!
A walk on the boardwalk with drink in hand-
Drinks at a bar on the boardwalk.
Pitstop at another bar on the way back to the hotel- drinks...
A drop in at Seacrets to visit with friends, drink in hand.
Time for bed, but first...
A quick drink at the hotel bar. (Naturally)
Five hours of sleep- No drinks!
Time to get up and work...

Shooting in Denver
I'll never understand senseless acts of violence-
People trapped in a theatre while a shooter opens fire.
There are sick people in the world.
I'm sad that innocent people died because of one disturbed man!
Prayers for the families of the victims.

Don't Get Snotty!
I'm convinced there's nothing worse than summertime allergies!
Yes, you may be able to prove me wrong...
But my point is CLEAR.
Unlike my nasal passages!
Where the hell is all of this snot coming from?
I blow my nose every three seconds, and still there's more?!
The most upsetting part is that I spend the majority of my day on the phone
or teaching class, and NO ONE can understand what I'm saying!!!
Then I lose my temper and get really SNOTTY...
Literally.
Ugh.
I hate summer pollen, dust and shifts in the weather.
But I do love the SUN!

Sometimes Things Work Out...
Sometimes they don't.
The point is that I put myself "out there."
The rest is out of my control!
The funny thing is, it always works out for the best~
Even when I think I've sacrificed too much,
I'm shocked when something more wonderful comes along and I'm free to snatch it up!

Time For A Change...
It's crazy how a simple haircut and style can change your outlook on life.
I've realized this about myself...
When I start to feel less than confident or fabulous,
it's probably because I need a haircut!
Random, I know.
But the truth.
When you start to feel down and out...
Change something about your appearance and you
rediscover your inner "player."
For less than $40.00, I can get my hair cut and styled
and feel like the a million bucks!
People notice too!
I love that about life.
When you need a little self-confidence boost-
Remember... it's time for a hairstyle change!

Writing in the Dark-
It's tough, but necessary to write in the dark when sharing a hotel room with a colleague.
It's not like I can say, "Hey, I know it's 6 AM and we're not called to the theatre until 9 AM, but I'm on a schedule, so I have to get up now and journal. Then I'm going to exercise while watching the Today Show. I hope you don't mind..."
Oh the joys of the glamourous life on the road!

What Happens In Vegas...
Let's just hope there's some truth to that played out marketing slogan!
I landed in Las Vegas last night and woke up with the worst allergies EVER!
My eyes are watery, red and itchy.
My nose is caked and crust with dried up snot-
And my throat is irritated and full of phlegm...
If I didn't know better, I'd suspect a summer head cold...
But I DO NOT get colds!
So it must be allergies...
Claritin take me away!

A Day In LA...
Morning meditation, stretch, journaling and blog post-
Matinee at AMC... I'm thinking Ted, but there's always Magic Mike?!
Brunch with friends- I LOVE Eggs Benedict and a mimosa.
Followed with afternoon pool time;
I fully intend on catching up to Hollywood speed with a few the trashy tabloid magazines!!!
Dinner at home with the puppies.
It's a tough day...
But when you only have one day off in LA you have to use it right!

Happy Birthday America!
In honor of America's birthday I think everyone across the country, from sea to shinning sea, should throw a big BBQ bash and light fireworks at the beginning of the hottest month on earth!
Sounds like the perfect way to say I love you America, now let's celebrate! We'll drink a lot of beer and play with fire...
Happy Fourth of July!
Thank you to all of the brave men and women who have served or continue to serve our country.
Be safe!

Hallucinations
It's starting slowly,
She's seeing things that aren't there.
How do you take away an independent woman's freedom?
The alternatives are not an option.
She will hurt herself or someone else.
The disease is moving fast.
It's not something I can't fully grasp-
She has always been my rock.

A Marriage Made in Xenu!?
It's official!
Arguably the most talked about and absurd marriage in Hollywood history is ending!!!
Insiders close to Tom Cruise have always insisted that Tom "loves" Katie, and that their marriage was not a Hollywood power play, arranged by the "church" of Scientology...
After all, nothing says "love" like a five year contract.
Or what about the (alleged) fact that Tom has divorced each of his wives at the tender age of 33?
Perhaps because that's when their boyish looks start to fade-
Whatever the reason, Katie and Tom are calling it quits.
I seriously doubt if anyone on this planet or Xenu for that matter is shocked...
Still, I can't resist to repost the parody that we at A Group Production shot just last month!
Who knows? Maybe our video was the antidote that Katie needed after watching all of the brainwashing videos she was shown when she joined the "church" of Scientology?

Smoking In Restaurants
I guess because I live on a coast I'm a snob...
But I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would want to eat in a restaurant oozing with smoke!
I'm not a smoker, nor have I ever been-
But I'm that "friend" who always accompanies the smokers outside.
Mainly because it's fun to be social, and the "smokers club" is always interesting.
However, eating my healthy salad while breathing in the Camel unfiltered that the 200 pound man at the table next to me puffs on is just NASTY!
Dear Missouri-
Smoking in restaurants is just gross.
I felt like I was in Germany circa 1997...
It's not hip and cool, it's just smelly and wrong.

The Real Housewives of Orange County Parody
After two years of requests... we finally decided that Season 7 of The Real Housewives of Orange County was something that A Group Production could parody in our playful and oh so brutally honest way! I give you The Real Housewives of Orange County Parody:
Hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did writing and shooting it!

Back in Branson
It seems like just yesterday I was sneaking into McGuffy's bar for an ice cold 20 oz Bud Light in a frosted mug, here in Branson after one of the evening shows at The Moon River theatre...
Alas, that was over twelve years ago!
I was twenty years old and felt invincible.
Naturally I've grown up a lot since then-
I can no longer stay up until 4 AM and then roll into the theatre for a matinee the next day. I also prefer wine over Bud Light (unless of course I'm at a beer pong tournament, a sporting event or eating pizza.)
However, I am happy to report that I still have that same great feeling when I walk onto a stage for the first time or get to perform.
It's strange working in a place you've worked before after a full decade has passed.
In many ways time stands still, the smell of cedar still fills the air and the memories come flooding back!
Branson was my playground in my early twenties-
It will be interesting to see what fun adventures I can have (clearing throat) early thirties?!

Focus Grasshopper
It's easy to find your Zen in a tropical paradise like Hawaii-
But to maintain calm in Los Angeles,
It requires a lot of focus!
The toughest part is remembering to let go...
Even when you have a set back,
Like that asshole who cut me off yesterday and almost caused a wreck-
I have to let it go.
The worst is waking up overwhelmed...
I didn't have that in Hawaii, why do I have it in LA?
Oh right, because I'm back in reality.
Ok-
Deep breath in and release.
That problem is only a only an issue because I haven't solved it yet.
Focus on the task at hand, apply positive action, cross it off the list and move on!
The grasshopper is learning.
...VERY slowly!

Meetings, Auditions and Packing Oh My!
Back in Los Angeles for less than two days and already the action is packed.
I'm not complaining-
I actually appreciate the steady beat.
It's nice to take some time in a restful place like Hawaii to put things in perspective, step back and gather your thoughts.
It's also rewarding to return with a clear head and reinvigorated drive!
I'm ready for my week of meetings, auditions and a trip to competition town U.S.A.
Like my aunt always says,
"Work hard, play hard, vacation often!"
Now it's time to get to work...

Out Of Paradise...
Why is it so much harder to wake up early in Los Angeles?
When I was in Hawaii I was up at 5:00 AM every morning.
Here in LA, I'm lucky if I can peel myself out of the bed by 8 AM!
I guess it's more fun to wake up with the sun, when it rises in paradise~
No matter how difficult it may be, my goal is to compromise...
I'm going to strive to wake up at 6 AM.
I just have to remember how much more I can accomplish when I don't sleep half the day away!
Like my Grandpa Smith always says,
"There's plenty of time to sleep when you're dead!"
Late to bed, early to rise, keeps a man living a full life!

AT&T Employees- Unfriendly and Alleged Gay Bashers?!
As a long standing customer of AT&T, I've always known that their employees were not the nicest group of customer service providers. But based on the response to a video I posted on YouTube from one of their "alleged" employees, apparently they bash on the gays when they put customers on hold!
Here is the comment I received from a YouTube viewer that claims he is an employee of AT&T:

Remembering Grandpa's Spirit
It's hard to accept the idea that everything happens for a reason.
But the older l get, the more I discover the philosophy to be true. When my grandpa passed away in 2009, I wasn't sure how I would move forward. I had never lost a close loved one and the pain was deep.
I've mentioned in previous posts just how much my grandpa influenced my life. Even on his last day, he reminded me of how proud he was of me, and not to be sad. He knew he was dying, and he only thought of his family and their feelings.
This was how he lived his entire life.
He shared with me his unconditional love, support and wisdom.
After he passed, I began wearing one of his gold rings that my grandma gave me.
For me it was a reminder of him, of course. However it was more than that. The ring was a daily affirmation of his life and spirit. It encouraged me to remember his words, love, support and to make the most of every day.
I have worn the ring every day for over two and a half years.
After having it resized this past December to wear on a different finger, I got in this terrible habit of taking it off. The way the ring sat on my finger after being refitted was awkward.
I made a mental note to be careful. I did NOT want to lose this ring. It was was not worth more than a few hundred dollars, but the emotional attachment was irreplaceable.
On my flight to Hawaii last Sunday, I used the washroom on a layover flight in San Francisco. I took the ring off in the boarding area to reapply hand lotion and the ring must have fallen out of my pocket. It wasn't until we were taking off that I realized that it was gone.
Not exactly the way you want to start a long overdue and needed vacation in paradise!
When I arrived in Hawaii, I asked a flight attendant if a ring had been turned in. A passenger overheard me, and told me that they had found a ring in San Francisco and it was turned into lost and found.
At that moment, I decided that if it was meant to be, I would get the ring back.
I called United Airlines and filed a lost articles report. I had low expectations of ever seeing that solid gold ring again.
I released it and began enjoying my vacation.
While I was in Hawaii I was able to relax, regroup and regain a calm gratefulness. I spent hours at a time meditating in the healing waters. I felt centered. I remembered the power of positive energy and faith.
It's so easy to give into fear and self doubt. But when I took the time to check in with myself and sit quietly in the presence of God- everything was clear.
If I make time to meditate, journal and exercise, I feel centered and confident. Naturally, when I feel centered and confident I'm more readily available to succeed at the task or challenge in front of me.
In the still of my enlightenment, while floating in the ocean in Maui, I acknowledged that I have experienced so many amazing adventures. I've accomplished so many wonderful goals.
I have never gone without- and I can't help but believe it is in large part because of my faith.
Three days into my vacation I received a phone call from United.
They found my grandpa's ring and it was being mailed back to me.
It's funny, my grandpa was the man who (on his death bed) encouraged me to live a full life without fear and trust that "everything happens for a reason." Two and a half years later the loss and return of his ring, would once again encourage me to trust in myself and the journey that I am on.
Release the doubt and embrace faith!
I also learned something while the ring was missing; I understood that the wisdom, encouragement and memory of my grandpa was not in a ring-
It was in his spirit.
And his spirit is not in gold or even a photograph, rather his spirit lives inside of me.
It is in my heart and soul.

Side Note: Grandma's Parkinson's
I call grandma several times a day to remind her to take her medication-
She has Parkinson's disease and the pill she takes five times a day helps her to function and talk with more ease and regularity.
The only problem is if someone doesn't reminder her, she may forget to take it.
That's where I come in...
Aside from the fact that I've been talking to my grandma almost everyday since I left home at eighteen to follow my dreams, calling her to take her pill is an opportunity to visit with her and make sure she's well.
Lately however, she's been forgetting her phone in various places; restaurants, friends' houses, the car...
(Most likely because of her illness or ironically enough a side effect of her medicine.)
Regardless, it is frightening for me!
My mind begins to wonder.
When I finally get ahold of her, she feels bad.
That, of course is not my goal.
So today when I called and finally reached her- she started laughing.
Without my prompt she said, "you're going to have to start reminding me to check for my phone so that you can call me to take my pill!"
We both laughed out loud at the hilarious thought.
That's what I love and admire most about my grandma- her spirit has never ceases to shine, no matter what life throws her. Her faith is strong.
I hope to be as wealthy as her one day!

Hawaiian Holiday Day 7
The bags are packed, it's time to go-
Only a few hours left in tropical heaven.
We combed the lavender fields,
We swung from the trees into the deep pools of water at Twin Falls,
We sailed off to Lahaina,
We ate delicious meals and drank plenty of Lava Flows,
We watched the gorgeous sunset every night over the water;
But my favorite part was meditating in the healing ocean waters in paradise!
This was an enlightening journey for me-
I don't use the word vacation, because it was much more than that. This trip was healing. It was a reminder to release and surrender to the glory of God. Whatever form or version of Him you believe in, for me there's no mistake in the presence of something greater than I-
I get so caught up in making my life happen the way I want it to, but the lesson I remembered here in Hawaii is that something more wonderful and divine is at work.
When you're a kid you imagine what your life will be as a big picture, as you grow up you discover the bliss is captured in the frames between.
Aloha!

Hawaiian Holiday Day 6
I was told that it was a Hawaiian tradition to stack rocks and offer up a prayer-
So when I spoke to my grandma yesterday and she asked me to place a rock with her name on it near the beach... I thought this would be the perfect compromise!
Now my grandma will have an ocean front view in Hawaii!

Hawaiian Holiday Day 5
Just when you think paradise couldn't get better...
There are several spots along the road to Hana where you will find hiking trails that bring you back to a hidden waterfall.
Yesterday, rather than taking the full trip to Hana (it's a must see while you're on Maui, but takes a full day.) Our goal was to swim in a waterfall and be back to Wailea for sunset Lava Flow's...
Mission accomplished!
We hiked back about two miles, the entire way surrounded by gorgeous trees, colorful vegetation and the winding river.
When we arrived at Twin Falls we were ready for a refreshing dive into the pond!
Just about anywhere you go on Maui, you will discover a secret treasure!

Hawaiian Holiday Day 4
Good things come to people who get up at 5:00 AM every
morning on vacation in Hawaii...
On the fourth day- the sun rose up from behind Haleakala volcano!
It was an explosion of light and a burst of color.
Definitely worth the wait!

Hawaiian Holiday Day 3
Sunrise... Sunset!
Yesterday I woke up early to watch the sunrise, and saw nothing but grey skies!
Thankfully last night we had the pleasure of sipping multiple Lava Flows and eating the most outrageously decadent off-the-bone braised short ribs from the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a at the Grand Wailea while watching this sunset:

Hawaiian Holiday Day 2
Not every sunrise is beautiful... even in Hawaii.
I woke up at 5 AM to witness the gorgeous pink, orange and purple sunrise that I heard my family bragging about yesterday morning.
Naturally today the skies were grey and cloudy.
But every cloud has a silver lining. Literally. There was a stunning silver lining that wrapped around the horizon. The sun peaked through a cloud and the sky turned blue!
Every day is paradise in Hawaii!
Even when it's grey and cloudy!

Accepting Loss...
Today should be a wonderful day-
After several incredibly stressful but highly productive months of work and creativity, I'm on my way to Hawaii for a week long vacation.
Paradise right?
Unfortunately my trip started off with an emotional misstep.
I have a terrible habit of removing my grandfathers ring that I'd started wearing after he passed away.
It was a simply solid gold class ring that he wore in high school and I've worn every day since his death.
While the ring itself was probably only worth a few hundred dollars, the emotional connection was priceless.
Somewhere between the bathroom and the terminal I took the ring off to apply some lotion hand lotion.
Ordinarily I take special care to put the ring in my pocket and return it to my finger as soon as I've finished the task at hand. This time I was careless.
The worst part is, I didn't realize the ring was no longer on my finger until the airplane was speeding down the runway.
After talking to the flight attendants I learned that the only thing I can do is contact the airport when I land in Hawaii to see if anyone has turned it in...
I'm devastated!
I have no one to blame but myself.
I've lost a piece of my grandfather that I wasn't ready to give up.
So it looks like my vacation is starting with sadness, guilt, punishment and the fact that I have to accept the kiss of my grandpa all over again...
And on Father's Day!
