Saturday Morning Sans Work-

I love Saturday mornings-
I rarely get one off, but when I do...
Look out Sponge Bob, I'm watching you.
Breakfast in bed, followed by a long walk with the puppies.
After that, who knows what will happen.
I have no plans, and I don't care.

Just One Of Those Days...

You know those days when you wake up happy,
with a wonderful adventure planned-
Then, without waring, everything turns to SHIT!
Today, is one of those days!
After spending three hours on the phone dealing with a business matter that should have been resolved in ten minutes...
I missed my movie, a trip to the beach and the chance to have a delicious lunch with friends.
The worst part is, I'm so pissed off, I can't even move past it, to go forward and enjoy whats left of my DAY OFF!

Me Time

Sitting outside in the valley heat,

Drinking my Starbucks iced coffee-

The puppies comfortably passed out in my lap.

I should be writing or returning calls,

But instead, I'm enjoying some me time (with a splash of social media), naturally.

Auditions

Similar to going to the doctors office,
Auditions can be a painful experience-
The waiting room anxiety,
The fear that your going to hear something your not ready to learn about yourself,
The awkward “small talk”,
and then:
The naked vulnerability,
The only difference is that after the doctor, you leave with a lollypop!

Forced Creativity May Lead to Something?!

When you're over worked, it's hard to find time to write-
Nevertheless, I force myself to sit in front of my computer screen searching for creativity.
I'll let you know when it arrives.

Networking Takes Work! ...AND A BETTER SPELL CHECK!

It's interesting how responding to one email can turn into a forty-five minute project.
Carefully scrutinizing every word (with far more patience than I do this blog post), I hit send, only to see a typo-
That's life.
Do I send an additional reply and comment on the silly mistake? Or do I let it ride and hope they understand?
How come networking takes so much work?

Happy Mother's Day

Mom, you gave me life-

Even though I'm sure you wished you could take that back during my teenage years, I'm grateful you didn't!

Thank you for your unconditional love, support and faith in me and my dream.

You are the worlds best mom!

Two Choices:

The opportunity always exists to be grateful for what I have,
rather than lamenting over the things that I want.
The advantage of celebrating my victories, however small, provides an energy that usually leads to unexpected adventures.
vs.
Laying around sulking, which inevitably lends itself to: overeating, weight-gain, complaining, a bitter attitude, a bleak outlook, depression and an overall lack of creativity.
Life is too short for that shit!

Goodbyes Suck

Saying goodbye is never easy;
Especially when it's your mom.
Watching as the car turns the corner and fades into the sea of traffic-
It's like a vacuum cleaner is sucking the laughter and unconditional love away from you.
Just like that, the suspended childhood-bond that emerges whenever she is near, gets ripped apart all over again.
My heart sinks and I realize, my life as an adult must continue.

Note To Self:

When life gives you a free and delicious steakhouse dinner;
You take it.
Eat all of it. (Regardless of how fat you already feel because all you've been doing for the past week is consuming calories of every kind.)
Then, you regret it the next morning and tell yourself you CAN lose ten pounds in two days.

A Cinco de Mayo Thought:

Americans love a holiday,
Especially one that they've invented that involves booze.
Margarita- rocks with salt.
Don't forget the chips and salsa.  Guacamole, too!
It's Cinco de Mayo and I'm a partying fool.

The Art of Balance in Hollywood

It's so easy to get wrapped up in the LA scene-
Hustling for meetings, pitching your fabulous projects, relentless SELF-promotion;
You start to buy into the idea that you're only a success if you have two TV pilots in production, a movie deal with NBCUniversal, your own reality TV show and 10 BILLION followers on Instagram!
It's exhausting, but you're trapped into this belief that if you take a break you'll lose EVERYTHING!
When my mom comes to visit, I'm forced to STOP.  Family reminds you that there are far more important things in life than how you look on camera.  My loved ones knew me when I was just a little kid with a huge imagination and an enormous dream.
They continue to support my adventure, offering their love and encouragement.
I strive to live with balance in my life-  Naturally, I'm not perfect.  I do, however, fight to be a better person every day.
Therefore, in honor of my thirty-SOMETHING birthday, and my family in town I'm going to give myself the week off.
There will be plenty of time to conquer Hollywood next week, and if "Hollywood" forget who I am in a week, I'll just stage a "comeback" by checking myself into trendy rehab facility- I may have to do that anyway after this week!

Nothing For Granted...

When you're not feeling great about yourself-
Change something small.
Get a haircut or try wearing something you have in your closet, but mix in a fresh new spin;
Little tweaks bring a fun new energy to your life.
If that doesn't work, close your eyes and remember all the huge things we take for granted, like: walking, talking, oh and breathing!

Starbucks NEEDED!

A sleepless night, equals a long day in a dark theatre-
You'd think with the bass pumping and dancers jumping it would be easy to stay awake,
But the heat from the stage lights calms the body.
Today is going to require an extra trip to Starbucks, lets just hope that three triple-shot lattés will do the trick!

Pep Talk.

Living a happy life requires constant release and Faith.
Dismissing the thoughts and demands that I think society expects of me; it's vital to my success.
I refuse to get lost in a sea of doubt.  Sure, it's easier to give into fear.
Taking action, however, has always served me well.
I don't know where my future will take me, but judging from my past, I imagine the adventures will be fun.
As I get older, it has become more tempting to abandon my optimistic nature-
How will that serve me?  It won't.
Life is a journey; there will be mountains to climb and a lot of less-than-fair weather to overcome.  Through each struggle, I will conquer new heights.
When I look back on my life, it will be the view from the peaks that I cherish.

People Watching at Starbucks

Young or old, everyone has their swagger.

Swinging, swishing, hunched or pulled up-

Fast and furious, or

Slow and steady, both on a mission:

Coffee! Java. A cup-of-Joe

Creatures of habit.  In need of caffeine, and socialization.

Starbucks is more than a coffee house, it's an anthropological classroom in the university of life.

Awake, but not conscious.

Sitting at another airport sipping on a watered down soy latte from Starbucks.

Surrounded by a small group of regular travelers (I can tell by the roadmap that marks their face and zombie eyes.)

I feel like a member of The Breakfast Club! Only our group would be called The Sleepless, Worn-down, Tired of this Lifestyle BUT Grateful for A Job Club.

Instead of getting detention we get delayed!

Weekend Dream...

Regardless of the amount of sleep I get, waking up to go to work on weekends always feels gross and wrong!
I want to sleep in, and slowly rise to the sound of cartoons and the blended aroma of coffee, bacon, and pancakes.
I'd casually roll myself out of bed, with my down comforter wrapped around my entire body, plop down on the sofa and drift in and out of sleep between shoving a piece of crisp salty pork in my mouth.
Eventually I'd decided to wake-up with a hot shower (around noon) and convince myself to get outside-
Maybe I'd go for a walk to Starbucks with the puppies and spend another hour or soaking up the sun.
Finally, I'd be ready to meet up with friends for an afternoon movie, followed by dinner and maybe a dance club?
But instead, I'll hurry and write in my journal, compose my morning blog, do my daily stretching, rush to get my social media fix, jump in the shower and throw on clothes, with enough time to grab a crappy hotel coffee, shove a Cliff bar down my mouth and make my way to sit in a theatre for twelve hours judging performers without a break!

Family Vacation, Saying Goodbye

Family vacation,
Spending time with the people I love;
Laughing a lot and eating more!
Italian passion is wrapped in emotions-  AKA calories.
My family is crazy, hilarious, loud and opinionated.
Despite the moody moments, our quality time was filled with joy.
Highlight: wonderful one-on-one time with my sister and my beautiful niece.
(The first vacation with my sister since high school!)
The time is near to say our goodbyes.
When I was a kid, that meant a lot of tears.
As an adult, I value the time I have and look forward to the next one!
Hopefully sooner than later.
I love my family.

Polluted!

It's a challenge to accept it, but my "little" cousin turned 21 yesterday!
I used to change her diapers.
Now, I'm changing out her empty beer cans.
My entire family is in Las Vegas to celebrate the epic event.
I choose the word "epic" because twenty-five family members in the same city, sharing the same hotel, drinking and celebrating has it's fireworks!
Nevertheless, we partied until 1 AM,
Shelby, my cousin, was still standing at the end of the night, too.
Never mind the fact that she was being held up by her boyfriend and her mom.
Yep, that's how we roll in our family.
Through life's ups and downs, my family will rally to make sure you're always on your feet.
(...and heavily polluted!)

Faith

As I get older and I'm blessed with each new day on this earth, I appreciate the opportunities that I've had-

My past is a reminder to continue living in the present and release the idea of what my future "should be."

Setting goals and working towards them, always mindful that I will experience everything I "need" to, when I'm meant to.

Adventure only comes to those who are open to change and unexpected circumstances.

I have Faith that my path will lead me where I'm most prepared for the journey.

Perk Of Traveling

I'm not always thrilled about traveling every weekend-
Flying is rough, especially the TSA nonsense.
Occasionally I have the opportunity to see friends that I've made over the course of my career.
Last night I enjoyed a delicious dinner, and even more exceptional conversation with two of my favorite dance colleagues.
I woke up (too early) and rather than hating this aspect of my job, I reminded myself that with all of the downfalls, this job has its perks, too!
Life is all in the outlook.
I choose to find the gratitude this morning.
Now, I'm off to spend fourteen hours in a theatre, I'm still searching for the positive affirmation on that one!

Just The Facts Please!

The only time I watch the news is when I'm staying at a hotel.
(Which is every weekend.)
It's nice, because instead of hearing the same exploited, unverified, inaccurately reported "news" is when CNN is recapping everything they got wrong throughout the week.

Keep The Content Coming!

Trying to come up with a new Instagram post idea every day is harder than trying to convince a senior citizen that Miley Cyrus has talent.
As an artist I'm always trying to evolve and reinvent myself-
Thanks to social media, you have to create new content on a daily basis.
I miss the good ol' days when you just had to have one successful project every few months and people were satisfied.

Let It Go. Seriously, Let It Go!

Don't be pissed about something that happened yesterday.
The fact that I let it ruin one day is bad enough.
Now I have to let it go. Release the disappointment, anger and rage.
Some people are assholes, I realize this and accept that there is nothing I can do about their problems.
I don't have to let their drama, become mine.
Let it go!

Technology Makes Me Rage!

Dear iMovie-
Thank you for sucking the life out of me.
I'm so happy I spent the better part of two weeks on a project that you would inevitably erase.
I'm even more grateful that you encrypted every single copy of the back-up I created, and destroyed all of the RAW footage.
As pleasurable as our relationship has been-
I am over you.
I will now use Final Cut Pro for everything concerning matters of my movie memories, in addition to the professional footage I shoot.
I can't say I'll miss you, let's just say I'll see you on my desktop and laugh at how terrible you really are.

Peace,
Matthew

Go For The Gold!

I'm addicted to watching documentaries on Netflix.
I #LOVE it!
I'm currently watching 30 for 30 - The Price of Gold.
It brings back so many memories.
The Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan saga was all anyone talked about in 1994.

Gratitude

It's easy for me to get lost in the daily grind.
Forgetting to appreciate the people in my life who bring me joy;
Acknowledging the opportunities that have sustained my journey.
Especially in LA, I'm always working, fighting, planning for the next venture,  I over look the adventure I'm on today.
I'm grateful for my past, and hopeful for my future-
But I want to be better about giving thanks for today!

Moving On...

Moving on from a bad day can be tough.
But what's done is done,
It's time to put the past behind me and have some fun.
Deep breathes in. Deep breathes out.
Smile, release fear and remove doubt.
Besides, if I died tomorrow would I really care about yesterday?

Deal With It...

Sometimes no matter how hard I try to fight a feeling or emotion, I just can't get past it.
I don't spend much time feeling sorry for myself-
But when I'm deep in a slump, it's harder to climb my way out.
I pride myself on being the type of person that doesn't hold onto fear, anger or resentment, so in moments like this I feel extra disappointed in myself.
For not letting go.
For not moving forward.
For not releasing.
For not taking positive action.
For not using any of the validating exercises I KNOW work-
I guess sometimes I just need to feel like shit.
And today, I'm trying to be okay with that.

Late Night Or Early Morning? Does It Really Matter? I'm up!

Sometimes creativity comes late at night.
Or early in the morning, depending on how you look at it.
Either way, I'm up-
I can't sleep when I have so many things left unchecked on my "To Do" list.
I'm honestly trying to get better about releasing the seemingly endless amount of work, stress and fear, to make space for new opportunities.
Life is a work in progress, and so is accomplishing every goal on my list!

It's inevitable, on the days that I want to sleep in, my puppies want to get up and greet the day.

Cable News or Entertainment Trash?!

Watching CNN is less like watching the news and more like watching a hybrid of Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition.
Scandal. Sensationalism. Terrible stories about unconfirmed, NON-newsworthy issues.
I can't even imaging what bullshit they're airing on FOX News?!? (I had to stop watching them when they decided to air "stock footage" of a crime reenactment, while talking about a drug bust.)  I should point out that the stock footage in reference portrayed two black males fighting, and the ACTUAL drug bust involved two white men. #Racist
I'm just old enough to remember REAL news- Not spin, hype and exploitation.
I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the old days!
Now I know how my grandpa felt.  (Which explains why he only watched the Weather Channel!)

Rain, Rain, Go Away! (Even Though I Know We Need You.)

The rain fall heavy through the night,
No doubt we need the moisture in Los Angeles.
It brings a darkness that's not familiar here-
A gloomy depression that I remember very well from my time in New York.
I'm in a bad mood.
It could be left over frustration from a disagreement with a friend at a dinner party.
Or, maybe because my puppies were terrified of the violent weather outside, and hence kept me up all night long.
Either way, I hate the rain.
Some people love it, I loath it.  That's why I moved back to LA.

No Shame #Starbucks

I've reached an all time low in my shamelessness!

Desperate for MORE caffeine-

I took the empty Starbucks cup I had from the Tulsa airport, to the Starbucks in the Phoenix airport and asked for a refill!

You can learn a lot about a person while waiting  in line at Starbucks.

Divorce, cheating and movie making are all a part of the gossip-

But my favorite are those people who cut you off and jump the line..

Those are the same assholes who cut you off on the freeway!

So thanks you Starbucks, for the education.

Sleeping Puppies

Quietly, I sit an watch.
Curled up in a furry ball,
Their tummies rise and fall.
Peaceful and worry free.
Awake, they pretend not to like each other,
But fast asleep, they snuggle like two peas in a pod.
Time to wake them up and start the day,
But I'll enjoy this perfect moment, before they wake up and start to play!

I was ready to hate the opening ceremony of The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics on principal alone.
Taking it a step further, I had committed myself to boycotting the broadcast all together.
Nevertheless, I found myself bored and curious as I sat in my hotel room last night (on the road for work) so I decided to switch over to NBC-
After all, who was going to find out?!
I clicked over just in time to see the US Olympic Team make their entrance into the stadium; I felt pride, excitement for the athletes and I felt like someone needed to call Joan Rivers ASAP. ...I mean those outfits?! Come on Ralph Lauren, they're athletes not senior citizens.
As I continued to watch, I noticed a vibrancy and colorful tone throughout the telecast.  Not just with the Olympians from all of the other countries, but from Russia, too.
Russia is known for their brilliant ballerinas, naturally dance played a huge part in the production.  It was gorgeous, all be it, a little slow.
I couldn't help but notice how many of the male Russian ballet dancers moved with pride and confidence.  All at once I felt sorry for them-
Clearly they love to dance, and it's doubtful they're all heterosexual (judging from the amount of make-up they wore, most of them are gay.)  How painful it must be to live in a country where your leaders condemn homosexuality on global level, and still expect you to perform for your country in the opening ceremony.
Then, one of the Russian speakers (I forget his name, and I didn't want to Google search it because I don't want to give him the hits) made a speech about every country celebrating their Olympians, and (I'm paraphrasing) leave the controversies off their backs, so they can focus on what they do best.
I loved that.
Don't get me wrong, I think Russia is wrong on their stance and how they approached the equality issue-
But they won me over with their opening ceremony, and I will support Team USA.  The only way to fight homophobia, is to have a few of our top gays go over and kick their asses!

The Glamorous Life is Back!

Early morning wake up call,
Bag is packed and puppies are pissed,
Long line at TSA, (Sure, go ahead. Open my bag, mess everything up and then leave it for me to repack... Thanks!) Asshole.
Oh perfect, a long line a Starbucks, too!
Missed my boarding group (this sucks Southwest) now I'm jammed into a middle seat,
A full day of travel,
Arrive at the venue without enough time to eat,
Smile, it's show time!
#TheGlamorousLife of talent competitions returns...
But this time, I'm plugging a book!

Teenage Acting

I'm working with a group of teenage theatre students in a show right now-

It's a lot like watching a movie of my life in middle school.

I really like the kid that's "playing" Me, he really understands the character. Plus, his hair is perfect.

When you don't get the answer you want-
Ask a different question.

It's been two months since you've gone to yoga-
Stretching at home isn't enough.

Random Thought: Homework

No matter how old you are, homework sucks!
The result of doing homework is a nice reward-
However, the more you accomplish, the harder you have to work.

GAYme Day!

For me, the Super Bowl is all about food and men in tight white pants.
The commercials and half-time show are like bonus treats.
I fully intend on overeating, while watching "tough guys" fight over balls-
It's funny how such a "macho" sport beloved by millions is so #GAY.

Wake Up!!! It's Time For Another Day of The Glamorous Life.

When the alarm goes off, my initial reaction is panic!
Shit, did I miss my call?!
I roll over to discover, it's 5 AM-
I don't want to get out of bed (especially because I woke up every hour from fear I'd over sleep.)
Cranky, I crawl out of bed with sleep-crust covered eyes and find my way to the bathroom.
The harsh bathroom lights spark a surge in my body, and I begin my morning routine.
I always make sure to leave enough time to stretch, journal and write my daily blog- (I have to find "me" time if I'm going to help anyone else...)
Finally, I gather myself and make my way to the theatre.
I'm ready for another day of #Drama on the stage.
The glamorous life continues.

#LifeIsShort

It's easy to find activities, projects and work that NEEDS to get done;
Everywhere I look there's a script that needs tweaked, footage that needs edited or paperwork that needs to be completed.
It's difficult to ignore those tasks, and allow myself time to breathe-
Today, I'm taking the day off!
I'm sure I'll feel guilty tomorrow, when I have twice as much work to do, but that's tomorrow's problem!

#Sarcasm or #Masochist

The more I overachieve, the more I realize I'm happiest when I'm so overwhelmed with stress, deadlines and meetings, that I can't breathe.
#Sarcasm or #Masochist? You decide.

Addicted to Starbucks!

I love lazy mornings.

Walking the puppies to Starbucks.

Waiting in the massive line,

The pulse of LA starts beating in unison with the barista's frother.

Sitting outside in January!

Lost in a sea of sunshine and coffee-

Another Unfair Life Moment:

I woke up this morning with a MASSIVE headache and I didn't even have any alcohol last night!
Now that's a real travesty!

A Road Map from the Past

If we waste too much time looking back,
We lose the energy and motivation to move forward.
The past is a brilliant road map for our future-
As long we remember to use it to make wiser choices, rather than getting lost in a distant memory.

The Glamorous Life

Lights, sequins, glue guns!
It's my first day back in the world of talent competitions-
New season, fresh music and choreography.

Leave the lip-syncing at home...

Daily Reminder

When you are surrounded by positive people, it's hard not to smile.
When you are engulfed with negative people, it's impossible to see positive.
I'm choose to live positively optimistic and work to accomplish as much as possible with blind Faith, hope and happiness-
Instead of giving into fear and complaining about everything I don't have.

(Not that I would know from experience. I'm just guessing...)

Caught Up

It's very easy to get caught up in negative energy-
I can't fall victim to fear-based doubt.
I want to be there to support my friends, but I can't lose myself.
I have the choice:
Lose myself in the insecurities that others project.
OR
Take action to counter strike against doubt.

Fact:

When you wake up early, you have more time to accomplish your goals!
That translates to more opportunity for success!

Day OFF!

I'm not going to feel guilty about taking the day off.
Primarily because I haven't had a break in over two weeks.
Even the most dedicated overachievers deserve a some down time-
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to post my social media, journal, check the daily trades, send out a few emails and return three phone calls before my day off begins!

Wake Up Call

The alarm went off too early this morning.
Even after coffee and a shower, I'm struggling to peel my eyes open.
Three hours of improv in a grape costume?
It's going to be a loooong day!

Conflicted

I'm aware of how blessed I am-
Still, I challenge my passion.
The quest to accomplish more terrifies me.
The line between reaching for new boundaries and "never enough" is dangerously thin-
Worse, the higher I soar, the blurrier it becomes.
I want to find more gratitude in my daily victories.  Happiness is not in the acquisition, it's in the journey.

Gig

Sometimes we get to work jobs doing something we're passionate about-

All the other times we're just lucky to be working.

I may not always love the gig, but I'm happy I can pay my bills!

After all, a job is a job.

Late Start

I slept in, and now I'll pay-
The puppies are mad, they have to pee.
I lost two hours, time to get things done.
I already know, today is NOT going to be fun.
I'm up and working, but there's no catching up,
The day started without me, and I just have to deal with it-
I knew I shouldn't have stayed up late watching Downton Abbey!

Reflecting

How many years am I willing to live in a state of bling optimism?
As long as I still want my goals and dreams to come true, and I'm dedicated to hard work.
Life is too short to do anything you don't love -
"If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
There is no harm in living a life with a confidence, a brilliant outlook, positive energy, and action!"
If the goals aren't accomplished, at least I died trying.

Own The World!

I can't let other peoples shitty days bring me down.
It's easy to get caught up in the fear.
It takes discipline to release their energy, and concentrate on the facts:
I'm in good health. I have a beautiful family and supportive friends. I own a home, and I've enjoyed a lifetime of following my passion.  Everything else is icing-
Looking back I see a wonderful career, looking forward I see nothing but opportunity.
Focused on the present I see pure blessings.
I reject spending a single moment of my time worrying about what others think.  I will continue to work hard, keep faith and own every single day.  It has always worked for me. Life is too short for anything else!

Inspired and Motivated

After watching the Golden Globes last night:
I'm inspired to continue working,
I'm motivated to take bigger risks.
I'm reminded that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, are shining examples of how far you can go - if the joke is hilarious, you smile while you deliver it, and you don't give a shit what people think of you.
(Oh, and that you CAN be over 40 and still a HUGE success in Hollywood!)

Who will inspire me to continue my quest?

I love the Golden Globes!

Sleeping in,
Awake to coffee,
Turn on cartoons,
Up by noon.
Ready for some pool time,
Drenched in sun.
Always ready for nightlife.
Yay for the weekend!

Stay Active!

Don't waste time worrying about what hasn't worked out.
Assess the situation, and take action to accomplish the goal a different way.
There's no short-cut to success, but there is ALWAYS room to blaze a new path!

Early To Rise, Means Nap Time!

I woke up at the crack of dawn.
If I get my work done early in the day,
I have more time to take an afternoon nap!
Wow, I just became my grandpa.

Middle of the Week.

Middle of the week.
Some call it hump day-
I don't see a "hump."
It's more like a mountain!
I have piles of work, and phone calls to return, but it always gets done...
That's the lesson to be learned.

What Do You Do When:

You wake up and you have absolutely nothing to write about?
You sit staring at your computer monitor, hoping for inspiration -
When that doesn't happen, you spend another forty-five minutes combing through Facebook.
Getting lost in a vicious cycle of reality TV clips, YouTube cat videos, and Huffington Post articles!
Still, nothing.
But you realize you have to start your day. (You woke up an hour early, remember?!)
So you find your way back to your blog, and you start typing.
This is the result.

Getting Fresh on Mondays.

Some people hate Mondays.
I love them -
A fresh start to a week full of opportunity and adventure!
Of course, this is my positively annoying 2014 outlook speaking.
But I think it's working for me!
I've already achieved most of my goals that I set for this week and it's not even 10 AM.
That means my affirmative energy is working...
Or I need to set BIGGER goals.
Either way, I'm happy!

Space Faith

Watching a documentary on The Universe.
I love knowledge -
Especially when it points to a beginning and an end:
Light vs. Dark, Matter vs. Antimatter, God vs. Devil.
Everyone can agree on the theory of a beginning out of nothing.
That's pretty awesome.

The Year Ahead!

It's my lifelong mission to organize EVERYTHING.
The start of a new year presents a plethora of tasks:
Filing away last years crap,
Rearranging the office,
Labeling new file folders,
Marking important dates on the calendar,
OCDing about all of the projects and tasks I NEED to accomplish.
Where most people would spend their weekend enjoying the 75 degree sun in LA; I will be in the house crossing off the checklist!
One "To Do" at a time.
Maybe, (just maybe) I'll let myself go to Starbucks for a mid-day latté...
But not until I create my 2014 spreadsheet, and finalize my plan of attack for a well balanced new year!
#Balance will only come with a serious schedule!

Here Doggy...

Why do I have to bribe my dogs with cookies in order for them to "come" when they're called?
The house could be on fire, and they will only "come" if I had a treat to offer them!
If this is any indication of my parenting skills, I'm in trouble -
Or I just might have a really fat kid!?
(Is it okay to refer to my nonexistent kid as fat?)

Acknowledging the Obvious, RE: Work

If it was fun, we'd call it play!
Even dream jobs come with headaches -
Slowly, I'm learning how to accept that there will always be more work.
Rather than focusing on the finish line, I'm concentrated on the road in front of me!

Happy New Year!

I love the first day of the year.
Full of hope, fresh energy, and endless possibilities.
I'm that person who sets nearly impossible goals in order to push myself beyond what I think I'm capable of.
With a list longer than Santa's, I work throughout the year to reach new heights.
My mission has shifted in the past three years.
Rather than focusing on crossing things off to say, "I did that!"
My aim is to grow into a more enlightened and evolved human.
Despite natural setbacks, I have continued to surprise myself.
When I release the limitations and leave room for unexpected opportunities,  I remain happy and proud of my personal journey.
2013 was magical, now I'm ready to see what adventure awaits in 2014.
Happy New Year!

Mission Accomplished!

After hours of rewriting, teaching and torture -
I finished my first manuscript!
The moment hit "send" on my computer, a weight was lifted.
My book is now in the hands of my publisher.
I'm elated.
Joy, pride and accomplished are the words that sum up my feelings.
I poured my heart and soul into every detail of my book, and I have nothing left to say right now.
My mind needs a creative break.
But what an awesome way to end a brilliant year, and begin anew!
I'm an author!!
Happy New Year!

Stand Back 2014!

Approaching the end of another year-
They come and go faster as I get older. (Just like grandpa said!)
I'm proud of my accomplishments, and accept that I can still do more!
I'm an over-achiever, that will try to find happiness in the goals that I'm able to conquer.
Still I want to do more!
So look out 2014, I'm coming for you Fearlessly and FULL OUT!

Remember:

When people are assholes, just smile and ignore them.
As hard as it is (and it is PAINFULLY difficult for me.)
The message is loud and clear.
When I don't engage, they feel like SHIT.
That is the best payback.

A Collection of "Friends" on Facebook?

The difference between a friend and someone pretending to be your friend is apparent when you ask for help.
You can have thousands of "Friends" on Facebook - but if they can't be bothered by a simple request (that requires nothing more than a response), the odds are they aren't really in your corner.
The collaborative spirit shines in those who see the benefit in helping others succeed at their goals.

Lap Time

I envy the life of my puppies,
Their toughest job is deciding which lap they're going to lie in.
After lap time they wake up, eat, go to the bathroom and then search for their next lap!
Oh to be a puppy.

Christmas Without Gram

Accepting loss is never easy,
This was my first Christmas without Gram.
I missed hearing her voice say, "Merry Christmas."
The way she would remind me of all our blessings.
The smell of the savory holiday fixings.
I yearned for her long embrace.
It was a joyous day of celebration, but there was a huge hole in my heart.
I no longer have Gram her on earth,
If Christmas has taught me anything, it's to Believe in the spirit-
And I do.
Merry Christmas Gram,
I love you.

I overate and now I'm stuffed.

I started stretching on the floor to feel active.

Health is important to me,

Especially when I eat like a maniac!

A Knock-Off Christmas Poem

Twas the day before Christmas and all through the house,
No one was cooking not even a mouse.
Our stockings were hung, but no presents in sight-
I sure hope Santa comes when I'm sleeping tonight.
Tis the season of love, blessings and cheer,
And before you know it, the start of a new year!
And I have a lot of work to do (which explains the lack of delicious holidays snacks, presents or creativity in my blog posts lately!)

Deadlines

The pressure is real,
So is the date.
I'm working real hard, and staying up LATE!
It's rough through the holidays,
I have no Christmas cheer,
My book is due soon, and I'm just plagued with fear.
Forcing the words, I'm in the creative zone.
But you'd never guess that from this cheesy poem!

Lost On The Internet

Social media has become a necessary evil in my line of work,
But I have to accomplish something MORE than a #Tweet today!
Getting caught in a Facebook, Huffington Post, Twitter tornado has not been great for my writing.
Has anyone else been lost on the internet?
Seriously, I "click through" so many posts, that I end up on some random website with political cats!  I knew cats were intelligent, but who knew they could vote?

#HangoversMakeForUnproductiveDays

Laying on my sofa trying to motivate!
I may have had too much to drink last night.

But nothing can pull me away from last nights episode of The Voice and the swimming pool of coffee I'm slurping down.

How can I be stressed, with nothing to stress about?
How can I be afraid, when I'm guided by light?
Release the negativity and embrace the blessings.

New House, Same God

My new church smells like old lady perfume.
I'm fairly certain it hasn't been remodeled since the 70's;
And I LOVE it.
It reminds me of my gram.
The music is different, and the people are unfamiliar-
But it's the same God.

Take Out The Trash

I woke up and spent the better part of an hour “reading” US Weekly and InTouch “magazines” that a guest brought into our new home.
I go out of my way to avoid the temptation while in line at the grocery store, yet the pictures of Kris Kardashian with the caption: Cheating Scandal! have suckered me back in.
I wish I could say that I wasn’t interested, but clearly I am.
I think it’s time to take out the trash-
But I need to flip to page 12 to see who Khloé’ is really OJ’s daughter!

The Adventurous Squirrels in our Trees

I wake up each morning and gaze out our bedroom window.
It's not instantly noticeable in our treelined view,
But if you wait just a moment you'll get such a thrill.
Adventurous squirrels swing from tree to tree,
Dancing around and leaping with glee.
They balance on the wires,
They climb to with such ease,
These squirrels are more fun than watching a flying trapeze!

The Creative Life

It's not enough to say you love to dance, if you want to be a dancer;
It's not enough to say you live to write, if you want to be a writer;
It's not enough to say you long to act, if you want to be an actor;
It's not enough to say you like to paint, if you want to be a painter;
Proclaiming your artistic passion is a brilliant start-
But to live the creative life, you have to take action.
Regardless of how insignificant you think the work is,
Taking that first step, writing that first words, speaking the first scene, painting the first stroke:
That is living as an artist.

Food Is Always on My Mind

I go to bed hungry,
I wake up hungry,
I spend most of my days and nights dreaming about food.
Make no mistake, I eat three well-balanced meals a day; (AND a snack!)
Yet nothing takes the hunger cravings away.
All the rich smells that fill the air, are making for one FAT derriere!

Creativity At Work

Family is gone,
There's work to be done.
Writing and editing to meet my deadline.
I'm grateful for the fun I had,
But now it's time to get to work!
Just as soon as I watch these cartoons.
After all, it is Saturday.

I Hate Goodbyes!

I've always had a rough time saying goodbye.
Today was no exception!
After a wonderful week with my mom, the time has come for her to return home.
I try to remind myself to enjoy my time with her, and remember that I'll see her again soon-
Unfortunately, no matter how old I get or how much time I'm able to spend with her, saying goodbye kills me.
I will miss her warm energy, laughter and sassy commentary.
But more than anything else, I will miss how safe and protected I feel while she's visiting.
I think I have such a tough time with goodbyes, because I realize how long the space between "hello" can be.
I'm grateful for 21st Century technology.
FaceTime has revolutionized long-distance communication, but nothing will replace the caring embrace of my mom or the delicious smell of her homemade pizza!
Safe travels mom.  I can't wait for the next hello!

A Friendly Reminder in Our New Home

Last night we had a few close friends over to celebrate our new home.
As each of them entered our house for the first time, they reacted with oohhs and aaahhs.
Noticing the floors, the fixtures, the art on the walls-
(Everything we worked so hard on, and hoped would stand out!)
After everyone took the tour, we sat down with a drink and began talking.
In no time at all we were laughing and sharing wonderful stories.
It was a reminder that a home is not about the gorgeous new hardwood floors or recessed accent lighting;
It's about the love you bring into a new space!
I'm so grateful that we have so many wonderful friends and family that will bring life into our beautiful new home.

Puppies Need Love Too!

You try getting work done with an adorable puppy on your lap!
I woke up this morning with every intention of getting some things done around our new home.
Instead, I find myself sitting on the sofa with my Shih Tzu on my lap and my Yorkie wedged between my thigh and the sofa!
I think they're trying to tell me something.  Perhaps if they could talk they'd say, "Stop ignoring us!  You've been so focused on fixing up our new home, you haven't even given us a bone."
I get it puppies.  I need to spend some quality time with you.
So today, instead of vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen, changing the faucet in the guest bathroom or working on my book (that is due December 31st!) I'm going to cuddle with you!
After all, puppies deserve attention and quality time too!

Another Cheesy Holiday Poem

Working non-stop I was up all night,
Trying to enjoy a well balanced life.
I have family in town and a book deadline,
Focus Matthew, you'll be just fine!
I make a check list, and check it twice;
I'm not Santa, just a man with a mission.
(I can't rhyme everything.)
That is clear,
But I got my blog entry done today,
and made time for holiday cheer!

You Can Do It All!

If you wake up early,
And stay up late,
You can finish your work.
Spend time with friends and family,
and still create!
Discipline is the key to achieving balance.
Set goals with enough time allocated to work on accomplishing them,
Then make sure to enjoy personal time too!
It's exciting how much you can do in a day,
There is ALWAYS enough time for work and play!

Mom's In Town!

I love when my mom comes to visit me,
Spoiled with love, laughter and gifts!
But mostly I'm grateful for the time I get to spend with her,
Sharing stories and catching up on her life.
My mom has always inspired me to take on new challenges, invite change and live in the moment;
Which is exactly what I needed this time of year.
To push myself past the fear and embrace the exciting new opportunities!

Turkey and Stuffing and Pie, Oh My!

I woke up in a food haze,
Still craving stuffing,
As if three servings wasn't enough!
The taste of gravy still on my tongue,
Sweet pumpkin pie and wine with friends,
It was a Happy Thanksgiving up to the end!

Happy Thanksgiving

The blessings are bountiful this Thanksgiving,
Marriage, a new home, a book deal.
I'm overcome with gratitude.
Despite the emotionally devastating loss of my gram-
I'm thankful for her love and spirit that lives on in me.
None of my accomplishments or victories would bring joy or happiness if I couldn't share them with my supportive family and friends.
I give thanks to every single person that has impacted my life;
I am a kinder, wiser, more loving and successful man because of them.
Happy Thanksgiving.

I Am Here

Occasionally I have to stop and remind myself that I am here.
Now.
Present in this moment in time.
If I choose to focus on plans, events or goals for the future, I'm missing out on today.
Life is overwhelming enough on a daily basis-
Why continue to stress, worry and plan for a tomorrow?
There is no guarantee that todays fears about the future will even pertain.
In fact, there's no promise that tomorrow will even come.
Live in this moment, because I am here now.

Realizing My Achievments

As a kid I never questioned my goals and dreams;
I knew exactly what I wanted and no one could convince me that my path might be a challenging one.
I stayed focused and confident.
Slowly I began achieving small victories that guided me to new opportunities.
I've made a career out of following every twist and turn,
I've said "yes" to new adventures and unexpected offers.
It's important that I "check in" with myself at every stage of my life to realize that I have enjoyed a continuous journey of growth, discovery and success.
As long as I stay committed to my Faith, confidence and hard work, I will soar.

Opportunity Awaits

In order to manifest the life that we plan for ourselves,

We must first be ready to accept the opportunity that is right in front if us,

Regardless of how overwhelming or frightening it may be.

The adventure that awaits us is "the plan."

Creativity Requires Action

It's not enough to have a vision,

You must strive for focused energy on every project or adventure.

To label yourself a creative person, and spend little time working and growing is lazy and irresponsible.

Even the most inspired artists have moments of fear, rejection or negative thoughts-

Creativity demands action to over come the challenges!

Living in Chaos

The move is complete.
My life turned upside down,
I'm not a hoarder but from the looks of my living room, I'm one litter box away!

Unpacking. Another bad poem...

Boxes stacked to the ceiling,

Random shit covers the floor,

I'm trying to stay calm unpacking,

But all I want to do is run out the door!

The Money Pit

You work,
You spend,
The cycle never ends.
The more I make,
The more "they" take,
I need to save-
A seemingly impossible concept to grasp;
Especially while renovating a new home!
Now I know why they call homeownership a money pit!
It doesn't even compare to the pit in my stomach...
That's life:
Now if you'll excuse me,
I've got to get to work!

Monday, November 18, 2013

Rant:

The only thing I hate more than a drivers who don't use turn signals,
are websites that don't work properly!
RAGE engulfs my entire being.
Why won't you load?
Why is there an "error" message?
Why does technology fail me!
WHY?! WHY?!
RAGE!

Months of rehearsing with 50 children,

And the choreography is kicking!

No Sleep, Overworked equals Bad Poem

I'm running on empty,
No break in sight.
I try not to cry with all of my might,
Writing cheesy poems for my blog entry today-
Give me a break,
I'm in a bad way.

Covered In Paint

Dip,
Roll,
Brush slow.
Splattered paint in my hair;
My clothes look like a college art exhibit.
The once hideous walls are now like new!
It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do.

Over-Worked

Apparently it's my mission in life to bite-off more than I can chew;
I'm just not happy unless I'm committing myself to:
meetings, classes, creative projects, producing, developing relationships, home improvement projects, flying around the country choreographing and teaching workshops, the list is endless.
The non-stop hustle of it all is tiresome and rewarding and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Remember:

The only way you will ever be "ready" for a new adventure or opportunity is when you accept that you will never feel ready, but once you take action, the fear and doubt are replaced with opportunity and accomplishment.

Homeownership

Overwhelming joy wrapped up in:
Stress,
Projects,
Maintenance,
Taxes,
Dinner parties,
Family gatherings,
Quite nights near the fireplace.
I'm beside myself with excitement and uncertainty;
Life is always a wild adventure, now I officially have a home base to feel safe.
It's a beautiful day!

A Trip To The Airport

Saying goodbye at an airport is always rough.
Sitting in morning rush hour traffic for an hour and a half on the way home, is brutal.
Getting to Starbucks just in time for them to run out of my favorite breakfast sandwich, is RAGE-worthy!
Who knew a trip to the airport could be so disappointing?

I Love Mondays

I'm up and ready to start the week.
First things first:
Coffee, morning journal writing, creative blog post, check in on social media.
Then-
Review the tasks and goals I'd like to accomplish and create a game plan.
Followed by:
Morning meditation, thirty minute hike and breakfast.
I'm focused and ready to give this week my full attention.

Ode to Thai Food on a Sunday Night

Spicy and savory,
Magnificent vegetables drowning in coconut curry sauce,
Thai chili paste I adore you!
I celebrate each SINsational bite of the drunken noodle;
Intoxicated? Absolutely.

The Weeks Go By So Fast!

Another Friday,
The week has passed-
Like my grandpa said:
"When you get older, the weeks go so fast."
As a kid, I couldn't wait for the weekend,
As an adult, I just wish I could hold on to each day a little longer.
Enjoy each moment for what it brings,
Soon enough I'll be wearing diapers! ...again.

Terrific Tuesday!

It's going to be a terrific Tuesday I can tell;
The birds are chirping,
The sky is blue,
I'm enjoying a cup of coffee on my balcony.
Then off to work, meetings all day-
But looking forward tonight,
Dinner with friends downtown,
Balancing work and play!

Anticipation

I battle the urge to live in the future;
Always aware of where I'd like to be,
What I'd like to be doing.
I've been a "planner" since I was a very young kid.
The need to set goals, make lists, and map out an entire year of my life-
In many ways, I believe I've succeeded at my dreams because I was so focused.
Yet there is a part of me that strives for a release.
A break from always anticipating every moment.
Do I miss the real "payoff" because I've been so attached to the idea of what "it" will feel like?
Ultimately I think a little anticipation goes a long way;
My goal is to have an understanding of what may come,
But be open and ready to be surprised!

Sunday Mornings

Sunday mornings are calm and peaceful,
Even my puppies lie quiet, despite the 7 AM alarm.
Lazy and warm, we stay cuddled up in bed,
Until the rich aroma of coffee (set on auto the night before)
Entices me to start my day!

Game Day!

Fight on!
Is what all of my USC friends shout in every direction on game day.
The energy in the stadium is astounding;
A sea of cardinal and gold.
The band provides the perfect beat,
The song girls kick and turn every time the players soar,
And just in case your keeping score:
USC wins again.

A Call From My Sister

Early morning phone call from my sister,
I could hear in her voice she was shaken.
Instantly concerned, I ask if she's okay,
With that, the flood gates of emotion come pouring out.
It doesn't matter how old we are, or how far apart we live,
I can always tell when my sister needs me.
Hearing her cry breaks my heart.
I wish I could give her a hug.
I listen as she begins to calm herself down,
Sometimes we just need each other to cry, laugh or vent,
Just like we did as kids.
I love my sister so much-
I get caught up in my day to day life, activities and personal B.S.
I forget how much I miss her.
On a positive note, I'm so grateful for FaceTime!
Thank you Apple iPhone for keeping me near my family, even while they're so far away.

Gloomy Day!

It's a gloomy day in LA,
The sun is hiding and so am I.
Trying to motivate,
Get my day started...
But on grey days like today;
I just wanted to curl up on the couch and watch trash TV!

Thought Of The Day

Things don't always work out the way we planned and hoped for;
But they always work out the way they're supposed to.
From everything, there is a lesson learned and the opportunity for growth.

Stress Sweat

It's a special odor unlike any other;
The adrenaline, anger and potential for things to go seriously of course makes the body react in such strange ways.
Every toxin in the body rises to the surface to motivate you to push through the stress,
Leaving you with a euphoric and smelly outcome.

Who Knew?

Who knew buying a home while producing a television show would be so stressful?
I always fantasized that buying my first home would be a joy;
Similarly, I imagined that running a television show would be exciting and fun.
While both opportunities are a huge blessing,
I'll be grateful when we're comfortably moved into our new home, and we've found our groove on the set!

Bad Dream

Not quite a nightmare,
But definitely not a fairy-tail either;
There's nothing worse than waking up from a bad dream.
Emotions on edge,
You spend the rest of the day with a terrible feeling,
Realizing it's was just a dream only makes the day more frustrating.
Like when I dream I've won millions of dollars, only to wake up and discover the truth...
How can I be this upset over something that happened in my mind while I was sleeping?

Goodbye Parties

Goodbye Parties are brutal.
Emotions are high,
Too much alcohol,
Clicks of friends meeting the "secret" friends,
Dancing, dancing, crying, dancing,
MORE alcohol!
The long walk home and the hangover in the morning.
So long good friend, I hope you'll stay in touch!

Get It Done! A Cheesy Poem...

Wake up early to start the day;
Lists "to do" aren't going away.
Working hard to get it done-
I just can't wait for weekend fun!

NYC in the AM

New York in the early morning is (dare I say) calm;
No honking taxis,
The streets are empty,
Times Square shines half as bright.

On the way to the airport I got sentimental-
I miss the good moments I had while living in the city.

[Then]

Slam on the breaks and barley miss hitting a nasty, angry man crossing the street.
The moment passed.
LA is waiting for me,
But I'll always have my memories!

Last nights wedding in NYC,

The Saga Continues...

I've heard thousands of horror stories about buying a home;
I just never realized all of those first time home owners I talked to were seriously UNDER exaggerating!
We're fighting so hard to own a house that isn't our first choice;
It isn't even our fourth choice-
From what I understand, this is just the first challenge in a nonstop saga of homeownership!
But I'm ready to join the big boys.

Note To Self

Buying a home is an interesting process;
Never have I been so excited to spend so much time, energy and money on something that is only going to cause stress and financial hardship for the rest of my life...
Oh right, there is my career in show business too!

I love Friday, and have since I was a kid.
Friday is a beautiful hybrid of productivity and play.
There are still goals and tasks that you crunch to cross off a list,
In order to maximize on a carefree weekend of fun!
Not too stressful (like Monday.)
Not too lazy (like Sunday morning.)
Just a perfect balance!

A Short Story: How My Dream Turned Into A Career

Inspired by variety shows like: The Carol Burnett Show, You Can’t Do That On Television, In Living Color and Saturday Night Live, my passion for the entertainment industry was ignited!  I remember the first time I decided to build a set. I was wide-awake in my bedroom late at night after watching an episode of In Living Color. My mind was whirling in a hundred different directions searching for a creative outlet.  Influenced by a sketch that I’d seen Jim Carrey performer earlier in the evening I was eager to release my own inner entertainer.  Without a firm plan, I decided to raid our linen closet searching for the largest sheets and blankets I could find.  I began stapling the sheets to the ceiling in my bedroom to create the best version of a soundstage I could imagine.  I snuck into the living room and “borrowed” the family camcorder that (in my opinion) had not been used to its full potential.  Without a script or any idea of a concept, I searched through my closet to find whatever ridiculous outfit I could make into a costume; propped the camera up on its tripod; pressed record and began improvising.  That improvisation sparked my journey as a performer and filmmaker.  Whether acting, directing, dancing, choreographing or producing- I love the business of entertaining!

Fall

Overcast skies,
Crisp chill in the air.
Pumpkin Spice lattés keep me warm and satisfied.
Layered clothes in rich earthy tones;
Topped off with a bold scarf and fashionable hat.
My internal clock reminds me that the time change is rapidly approaching.
Short days, equal cozy nights,
I love the fall!

Email Etiquette

Whether writing a personal note or a professional response;
Keep it short and direct.
REMEMBER NOT TO USE ALL CAPS UNLES YOU WANT THE PERSON TO THINK YOU'RE YELLING AT THEM OR REALLY EXCITED ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Consider that not everyone understands "tone."
So a disclaimer: "The tone of this email is urgent, but caring..."
Helps clarify your point.
Finally, please remember that adding a period doesn't take up more time, so use punctuation, just like you were taught in school.
Thx! (Oh yes, short hand doesn't save time, it just looks foolish.)

Island In Between

In the midst of a heavy production schedule,
I will be traveling to Catalina Island for a wedding-
I feel like I'm caught in one of those cheesy tweenage action adventure films; Journey To An Island Wedding and Still Attempt To Meet Your Deadline!
Not to say that I won't have fun,
I just feel guilty for leaving all the work that still needs to get done.
The things we do for friends...

Check's In The Mail...

I finished the job, WELL I might add...
So why haven't I been paid?
As a small business owner, I'm always disappointed with companies that don't value their Independent Contractors.
Don't mail me the check, hand it to me when I finished the job you asked me to do.
It's just good business!

That's A Wrap!

We wrapped on an awesome new project last night;
I love when dance and television collide,
Intelligent Latin women, full of passion and talent...
It doesn't hurt that they're all gorgeous!
We got what we needed from them,
Now the real work begins-
The most important part of the story:
Editing.
Ugh. It's a thankless job, but it has to get done.
Let's sell a show!

I'm So Hollywood

Nothing like a jam-packed schedule in LA;
Shooting a fun sketch for some friends with their own cabaret show in New York,
Then off to choreograph fifty 5th graders through the enchanted forest,
Next stop power lunch with industry friends,
Followed up with a full night of production on our next TV adventure.
The glamorous life is less less attractive when you don't have time to breathe.
Still, I love creative productivity!

Walk, Walk, Jazz Run, Step Tilt.

The life of a chorus dancer is still the same;
Show up,
Sign in,
Warm-up,
Learn the combo,
Dance,
[Cuts]
Sing,
And scene!
When they're fun (like today's audition for Elf) they remind me of how much I love musical theatre and performing on stage.
I made it to the end of the audition, and the director and choreographer seemed to enjoy my performance, so fingers crossed, I get the job.
Which I REALLY need right now,
Because the 42 block walk home was very humbling.
Ten years later, and I'm still shuffling off to an audition with a backpack and bittersweet attitude.
You can take the chorus boy out of New York, but apparently he'll just keep living like he did there!

The Tone Of This Post Is Passive Aggressive

So much for a day off.
My Sunday just went from a day at the beach, followed with a glamorous night with friends, food and The Emmy Awards-
To work, editing and a lot of stress.
I guess I just don't work hard enough to deserve a Red Carpet

Saturday Mornings at Starbucks

A steady line of cranky customers waiting for their caffeine fix-
That will not stop me from enjoying my morning check-in.
Catching up on world news with my New York Times iPhone app,
Visiting with friends,
Meeting new neighbors,
People watching and of course listening to juicy gossip from the shady characters at the next table.
I love Saturday mornings at Starbucks!

Apple is Becoming Too PC (Pun Intended!)

I think my iPhone 5 is watching me.
In fact, I'm positive that the iOS7 update is a collaboration between Apple and Big Brother;
Recording our every move,
Keeping tack of our online interaction,
Reporting our every step to the government, or worse...
Advertisers!!!
Don't even get me started on the new design. It's too safe. To sterile. To clean. Too PC!

Crisp and Chill

It's a brisk fall day in LA.
I love the rolling fog along the Hollywood Hills.
If it weren't for the palm trees,
I'd swear I was on the east coast!
I'm going to get outside and take a hike...
Breathe in some of that crisp air,
Regroup, refocus and revitalize in the chill!

How Much Is That Condo on the Corner?

I spent the entire morning daydreaming...
Online shopping for a home.
I love to pretend that I'm on Million Dollar Listing;
I play both the Realtor and the client looking for a home!
Making an offer on a dream condo in West Hollywood.
That's the phase of life I'm entering.
Will I sacrifice space for location?
Probably.
More money, less room in a fabulous, safe neighborhood.
We put it out into the universe, we're searching and I know it's going to happen.
VERY SOON.

Sassy Saturdays at Starbucks (The One In WeHo)

I love Saturday mornings in West Hollywood.
The young Hollywood socialites are still passed in some random venue,
The good looking guys from WhereEverVille, USA turned Hollywood Bad Boys are sneaking out of the aforementioned venue, making the walk of shame back to their crappy studio apartments,
And the fabulous, although somewhat older, sassy, funny men are laughing out loud at the latest celebrity scandal while trying to "one-up" each other with their nonsense and gossip over a delicious cup of Starbucks;
Pumpkin Spice Latté, naturally.
Happy Sassy Saturday.

Signs

I believe in signs.
Primarily because I've relied on indicators throughout my journey.
I wouldn't walk down a dark alley alone if I saw two guys with knives hanging around on the corner;
That's a sign of more trouble to come.
Every time that I've struggled with my career path or a major life decision, I've asked God for a direction-
Clarity, guidance, strength, wisdom.
A sign so that I may feel comfortable with my choice.
The past three months have been rough on me; losing my grandma, career setbacks and financial fears.  I began questioning, doubting and giving into fear.  I allowed the opinions of others to control my choices.
I lost Faith in myself and God.
(I should mention that I don't believe in coincidence, nor do I doubt the presence of a spiritual being greater than me; God.)
So it's no surprise that I find myself once again humbled and grateful for the sign I received yesterday.
It didn't take much, just a simple reminder in the way of a Scripture I saw posted on Facebook:
Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
It was a direct answer to the questions I had while silently meditating in prayer.
It's a sign that I must hear, accept and trust.
It was an answer to my question of doubt.

Reminder on "Making It" in the Entertainment Industry

The ability to work, be creative and sustain a life for sixteen years in an industry that fights to crush your spirit on a daily basis, is a huge success.
That is the very definition of "making it" in my book!

Always Remember

Twelve years ago today,
Heroes emerged to save the lives of innocent victims.
New York City gathered against hate and fought fear with love and peace.
America united-
Freedom comes at a price;
Today, I am grateful for all of those selfless men and women who continue to fight to keep our country the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Random Thought:

After spending a wild night in LA with one of my oldest friends; dancing, laughing and reminiscing about our lives on tour it occurred to me:
I got to party like a Rock Star in Chicago, Europe, New York City and Los Angeles in my Twenties.
That's fucking awesome!

Monday Madness

Errands to run,

Oh, coffee sounds good!
Quick trip to Starbucks,
It's my favorite spot!

Exhale The Fear

Woke up in panic,
Take a deep breath-
Exhale the fear,
Inhale Faith.
Life is short,
So I follow my dream,
Perhaps I'm blinded by the delusional state of mind I've lived in my entire adult life...
But so far, it's never let me down.
I continue to soar in the wind of unknown.

Dance 3. Looks 10.

That's not how the song goes?!
Sadly, that's how I felt yesterday at an audition.
Despite my yoga practice and all of the choreography and teaching I do,
The fact is, there are some things I just cannot do anymore...
Like extend my leg past 90 degrees!
Still, I can clean the floor with my style and story-
But don't ask me to do an eight count développé to penché!
It's just not going to happen.
P.S. I'll gladly keep my looks over my extension any day.
Plus, there are still those Broadway style, step touch shows that I'm perfect for!

Gentle Reminder:

I cannot let other people's insecurities effect me.
Nor can I let their fears become mine.
I must trust my path.

An Open Letter to Winona Ryder

Dear Winona-
You had such a bright future;
Mermaids was good for you.

Sinking Feeling

I woke up today with a huge pit in my gut.
Life is full of unknown obstacles,
Especially if you're in the entertainment industry.
Fighting to remain calm, focused and confident that another opportunity will come along;
ASAP!
I hate feeling fear-
I must take action.
Part of "making it" in the game of life,
Is moving forward, evening while you're struggling to find a reason to get out of bed.
Don't say the "D" word-
Just get up and work.
Every step forward, is a step in the right direction.

September

Another summer comes to an end.
September is upon us;
Fall,
Back to school,
Pumpkin Spice lattes,
The daily grind,
Football games,
Layers of clothing,
The brisk chill in the air,
The smell of fireplaces at night.
Before long we'll be hearing Christmas music playing in drugstores!
Oh yeah, and rent is due!
Happy September
